exhaust gasket?

Featured Replies

Hey, just wondering if anyone had any clue around how much it would cost to get an exhaust manifold gasket changed? Including service cost? Cause i have no idea how much the part itsself costs or how long it takes to change :) thanks.

Ouch that's a Turbo off job if its a vRS?

Gasket itself is prob 5er.

Yeah its a vrs, and why ouch? :( haha

Well basically you have to take the turbo off to change the gasket and its not a small job! I would expect £200+

To confirm you mean the gasket that goes from the head to the turbo/Manifold? or from the turbo to the exhaust/CAT.

How do you know it has gone? its not really one that tends to fail?

Im not entirely sure which one it is, all i know is theres soot all over the near side of my turbo and its causing the engine to make a spitting noise which increases with the revs. The guy at the garage said he thinks hed need to keep the car for probably two days too

I had this problem, very one said it was the gasket. (Sounds exactly the same) but after further investigation I found out it was the egr pipe.

Cost around £60, and about £20-£39 to fit, but if you have a rather set and Allan keys to fit its a 10 min job, was furious when I saw how easy it was to do but I couldn't find my ratchet set :(

My car is only on 50k so could happen at any time I guess, usually caused by wheel spinning or aggressive driving all the time lol (naughty)

Yeah i heard them saying something about the egr, i really dont wanna go spend around £200 on the gasket and find out that wasnt the problem :/ could you describe the problem you had mate?

Ummm, hmm lol

Well as you accelerate it hisses then goes when on full boost.... And when mine got to its worst it would hiss slightly when the revs were on their way back down, best way to tell is look inside your engine bay and see if everything's covered in black soot. Mine was plastered in it lol just rub your hand over th back of the engine bay and see if your hand is black, it's only four bolts to take off around the bak of the engine if you wanted to check first.

It was a very high pitch noise but I suppose would sound very similar to a leaking gasket :/
