what spark plugs for 1.8T?

Featured Replies

Thats what I've got in my Skoda manual too - strange to shear a plug that is new - suppose anything can happen once. Is your torque wrench a known quantity that you can trust?, had a new clark wrench once that when set to 60nm, actually "broke" @ 120nm. Shop took it back full of apologies, just a thought.

Yes m8 torque wrench is one I use at work. Only a few weeks old and calibrated by our quality/calibration team too. Will take the plug back in the week and see what they say. Really put me off using em to be honest. Think i might bite the bullet and buy some Denso's. Used in previous cars and always been good, just a tad expensive, but then i guess u get what u pay for.

Have used NGK plugs since I was 18 in diffferent vehicles over the years - I'm 52 now, and I've never had a problem, but I suppose there is always a bad one somewhere. Nissan forum that I used be on when I had mine swear by NGK. Give em another go,I dont think you will be disappointed.

yup i agree with phil, have used them for years without issue.

I don't ever use a torque wrench for putting in plugs, too much risk of damage to the thread in the head imo, much easier to get the right 'feel' by hand.

I too have used NGK in all my cars over the years and have never been dissapointed. However this is the second plug over recent years ive had a problem with. last one was a snapped core in my previous car. Dont normally use a torque wrench myself but had one at home that I had borrowed from work to do my sump with after replacing the oil pickup so thought I would do it right for a change....... Guess that'll teach me to do things the right way lol.

Hmm very strange for a plug to shear thread. As Luca states I have always used feel to tighten up plugs. Used NGK for years either no issues. Again don't be put off buddy.

too much risk of stripping the thread, stick to by hand!
