what spark plugs for 1.8T?

Featured Replies

I have a standard 1.8T 150 bhp estate (I think its an AGU engine code)

What spark plugs should I be putting in it? I normally run Bosch super 4's in my other cars, but these are both 20 year old VW's

Should I just go to the dealer and get a genuine set, or shall I get some others?

What do you guys run?

Thanks

dealer sell iridium/platinum plugs, they are oe, last around 40k miles, and cost around 40-50 quid, or if you are happy to change plugs yourself, go for some ngk stock plugs for around £3 each that will last around 10k miles.

On a modded car i ran bk7re a colder plug for mapped cars.

think the oe plug is PFR6Q

but please check

PFR6Q could be had on that auction site for around £20 a set delivered last time i looked

For 3 years I run on NGK V-line.I want to change them soon ,but I have no Idea what to use.

bkr7e perhaps as yours is modded and you work on your own car so can change them youself,

My engine is stock 100% (non RS 150 hp AGU) ,but yes I work everything on my car.

ah i thought you tuned your car sorry, the i think its just a part number along in the ngk part guide, possibly bk6re, you need to check, their plug are spot on and more than up to the job whichever you chose.

I've heard lots of people are using NGK plugs. Are the ones to go fo available from Halfords?

And are the PFR6Q the genuine plug part numbers?

Thanks for the advice so far guys

the the pfr is a gen part number, not sure as have never used them

the ngks i have bought online from ebay or a couple of suppliers, cheaper than halfords who don't stock the bk7re anyway.

I share that sentiment, but, I need to get them tomorrow, and don't know where else I could get NGK plugs on a Saturday.

local motor factors perhaps?

Trade Part Specialists http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/ or your local motor factor, most of them are open on Saturday mornings.

Eurofarts do the Bosch FR7 KPP33+ ones for about £20 IIRC.

edit. which ones are the cheapies, that last about 10k, somebody used to rave about them a while back, I thinkl they cost about a tenner for four

Stick with NGK. The Copper tipped ones are cheap, but personally i'd go with the OEM NGK PFR6Q platinums

Yep if you want close to Skoda std plug then get PFR6Q which are a longer life Platinum plug

If you want cheaper but just as good then get NGK BKR6E which are a copper core plug, that does not last as long as the PFR6Q but actually better conductor

If modded or mapped then go for NGK BKR7E which run slighly cooler and you gap them a little less.

if you want the cheapest then

BKR7E if your modded (.028 IIRC)(if you have the more powerful 2.0T mk6 coils then up as much as .032)

BKR6E if your standard (not sure on the gap size though)

really is no point buying expensive plugs, jus tbuy cheap and change them when you do the oil

Copy cat.....lol

I just run genuine plugs as ive only tried ever tried one set of non gen plugs and car run like crap so used genuine plugs ever since

Bought some NGK BKR7E today for my mapped vRS. Upon putting the 2nd plug in the thread sheard off in the head without getting anywhere near the torque setting. Managed to get the remainder of the plug out of the head eventually without doing any damage. Couldnt get it replaced as the place i bought em from closed at lunch so ended up putting the old plugs back in for now.

Its really put me off using the cheaper NGK plugs now. Which other plugs could I use in a remapped car? PFR7Q perhaps?

What torque setting are you using?

NGK site specified 25-30mn so I went in the middle for 28nm
