Best time to buy Yeti?

Featured Replies

Been round 3 Skoda and one other main dealer and most are giving me the "can't give you a better price as sales are slack etc, etc" response or similar on a trade in for same or upgrade to an Elegance.

Apart from the end of the month (need to make the sales target) advice on when to buy and other techniques is there a better way of doing it?

If you wait till spring do you get the "too many trade ins to shift so can't give you a better price" routine

Inpite of the so say high residual value offers on the 2 yr SE 1.2 DSG range from £9-10k 20k miles on clock, excellent condition even Parkers Guide comes up with £12300 part exchange. Current retail seems to be about £15k.

One non Skoda dealer said Yeti difficult to shift as a limited market and I can only give you around £10k what it would fetch at auction and so say make nothing on it. £5k profit on trade in + full retail price on new one seems a bit rich to me.

I know the real price is the price to change but seemed only able to get a low valuation and new car at full recommended retail price. As not want to go internet what is the best advice. Surely a high residual value should show up partly in the buyers pocket.

My dealing with dealers seems to be heads we win tails we win and its not me we are talking about.

Selling private seems a bit risky in asking for £12k or more cash.

Perhaps I am a crap negotiator.

Trying to sell privately is not risky, as you are 'asking for a price',

& selling if you get near it.

End of a quarter, end of a year or end of Registration half year is more important than the end of a month.

Best not to work out trading patterns or the ins and out of the car trade.

Sell well & buy cheaply, and if you are good at that often then you would not worry about cars as you could be a salesman.

Your only changing one car, so lets see how good you can do this change.

Have fun.

I concentrate purely on cost to change rather than overly worry about the P/X value.

Would suggest you try more dealers far and wide.

Yep - there are dealers all across UK willing to quote you, and perhaps rip you off , too.

Sometimes you just have to shrug those shoulders and "accept"!!

I read this just after replying to another thread saying what a good trade in I got on my last Yeti! That was a 140 diesel. I wonder if some engines/specs are seen as more desirable?

Try setting your sights a little further afield.

There are 2 well thought of dealers not too far from you.

Allams of Epsom and Prestons.

I made an excellent deal with my local dealer when I part exchanged my first Yeti for a new Greenline this summer.

Oop't North though. :giggle:

Prestons get my vote. Email Lee Harrison who may give you a quote by email. Lee Harrison <[email protected]>

"£5k profit on trade in + full retail price on new one seems a bit rich to me" - it is and I am surprised that that is the best deal (any) Skoda dealer will do for you

your Yeti - a dealer will want to mark it up by at least £2k, maybe £3k - he will try to get the best deal out of you that he can - he has to give a warranty, he is governed by the Sale of Goods Act anyway, he has to prep the car, finance his working capital, advertise it, pay his guys and make a profit - that's how life works and it should.....

If you are not prepared to suffer this sell it privately, it will only cost you £50 to advertise it on Autotrader, clean it, be honest with any buyer as to faults and condition and do your own negotiations.

Buying a new Yeti - you know the "dealer margins" and you know the current prices that dealers are getting away with for new vehicles - haggle for the best price that you can get by spending time contacting dealers around the country and going through Autotrader etc.,- if it is a new vehicle that you are after, most will deliver it to you FOC or for a small charge.

Dealers as in business to make money - if they are not, they will not be in business for too long

Financial, it is alway best to sell privately and buy with no part exchange.

If your Yeti is in good condition I would think that you should easily sell it privately if you advertise it at around £2k + less than a dealer is advertising the same spec vehicle for.

Take some good images and advertise it on here?
