My fabia came from the showroom with a digital speedo, its in Kph though, nice to know it can be changed

Ive ordered a new lead so will see what i can get up to

Lucky me that we have KPH here in Sweden :)

Where did you order the new lead? Where would it be possible to get the software from?

  • I've also seen people change the Maxi-dot to Australian (I think), then gives you the option of a digital Speedo Video demonstrating it here Here's how to set the autolocking with VAGcom

  • This nice man has set my MFD to display large MPH, just by flicking through the display, With a simple uncheck of a tickbox on the MFD you can reset the KPH to display in your normal MFD @ MOT time so

I had a stroke of luck on ebay

I have a cable on its way that claims to be the full on hex-can cable Ill report back once ive checked it out and if its all above board or a passable slightly shady one ill find out if there are any more

Hi Snowman

I finally got VCDS working and have managed to enable

Auto door locking/Anti Hijack

Single click unlock

lock/unlock beep

instrument pannel sweep

There seems to be alot more in there but alot of it i guess will depend on which options are installed on your car

I know you can stop the rear wiper from wiping the screen when you shift into reverse

change how the wipers behave when the washers are used (teardrop mode)

I found a link to a page on a mkVi golf forum with a list of handy tweaks although i was using my phone while i was waiting for the wife to get out of work and I now cant find the link

I imagine a fair few of the tweaks will be applicable to the Fabia

How much is a VCDS lead etc and does it work with iPad (as I don't have a laptop, just a hamster driven PC)?

Hi PDIBK

VCDS is a windows based application

There are other diagnostic tools out there i think torqueBHP has an ipad version with bluetooth/ipad compatible obd2 interfaces available

I don't know if there are any that will be able to do the adaption stuff vcds can do rather than just reading/resetting fault codes and displaying data from the car

It may be worth asking in the Diagnostics & VCDS section someone in there may have a better idea

loving the solution to the lack of digital mph problem - any down sides to this or loss of any other functionality??

So this is as simple as putting maxidot into Aus mode and then selecting digital speedo? - May get dealer to do it when i collect my car next week.

Cheers

I am guessing that dealer is not going to do this on my new car as is technically not legal and not part of the standard PDI? Anyone tried the dealer route or has it all been DIY by people so far? If so may have to search for a local member with the gear..........

Andy.

I, too, am doubting if the dealer would do this mod (although it looks quite easy enough to do if one follows the YouTube video instructions?).

If there's anyone in the West Midlands who could make active the "alarm beeps on locking/unlocking" and "one press unlocks all doors" on my new Fabia please PM me :-)

Ah - the Superb used to do instrument sweep - very classy, reminiscent of BMWs...

I will look on the tech area for an iPad friendly option...

don't all new skodas do the instrument sweep as standard? Have on the ones that i have seen/driven.

Andy.

Nope, my new Fabia Elegance doesn't.

Can someone please describe the steps one has to take to enable the digital MPH speedo on the maxidot computer?

Talked to my dealer today but he told me he wasnt sure that they had the software required to enable all of these gadgets.

Do anyone know just some dealers have the software or if this should be something that any real Skoda dealer would be able to do?

There is nothing ’not legal’ about it, it is perfectly legal, however I doubt any dealer would change it as it requires coding the car as Australian.

All dealers will have VAS and/or ODIS, some things can be changed with them, others need VCDS though and that is not recognised by VAG.

(one of the mechanics may have their own copy though) again look at the link as we have some Swedish VCDS owners on here.

Thanks for the feedback.

Ive found a guy quite close to me that has a VCDS lead and software so he will be able to help me.

Is this something Skoda could claim to invalid the warranty? In case if i need to use the warranty if something breaks or similar..

How do you adjust the xds (I think?) the doodar that acts like an electronic diff to adjust the cornering of the car

If a controller packed in (unlikely but possible) that you had previously recoded then technically they may not want to honour the warranty on it, however since you are not actually changing anything that is not already available on other models they would need to have a good reason why not to cover it.

If the coding had directly caused the controller to pack in (due to the wrong code being put in for example) then that would be a different story altogether.

That sounds reasonable :)

From my understanding if you use the software from Ross-tech i would never have to manually enter any code. The settings should be visible by just clicking a button to enable or disable a feature. Is this correct? In that case it should never be possible to brick a box from altering and changing the settings in the VCDS with ross-techs software and lead?

On a CANBUS car most of the time you do indeed just tick (or un-tick) the boxes available, but you can enable things that are not fitted to the car, this will then obviously give you an error code - as the hardware is missing.

You can also change codings through the ‘Adaptation’ button, which for example is done by changing the code from 0 (off) to 1 (on).

It i also possible to manually change the Binary code.

The Fabia is also not true CANBUS so from memory (only done a handful of MK2 Fabia’s) still has the code that physically needs to be changed.

The correct codes are given to you by VCDS but it is down to the operator to correctly add or subtract them from the original code.

As you can see there are always ways that the operator can screw it all up if he doesn’t know what he is doing.
