vRS rear brakes

Featured Replies

just got my fab back from dealer as i`d had rear brakes making a loud grinding noise when stopping at low speeds. They said the pads were bably glazed and cleaned them up for me. Charged me

It seems that the rear brakes are prone to corrosion and collection of deposits on the pads. I found the brakes would grind a lot during the cold and wet winter months. The best cure is to brake hard and burn the cr@p of the pads and discs. No longer a problem then...

I had the same problem with my current (although not for much longer) VW Bora whenever it got cold and damp. The advice from the VW Tech was to drive it round the block with the handbrake on a couple of notches when it occurred.

If you do that with the furby, it has an annoying tone, warning you that the handbrake is on :(

I did this to sort my rear pads out, you dont even need to get to the 1st notch, just lightly pull up till you feel the pads touching the discs, this will burn off the carp, and see how long it is before the tone irritates you. :)

I had the same prob, fixed by dealer under warranty for ref.

Can you give me a bit more info on this - my dealer's service manager claims never to have heard of this.

When I mentioned that I'd read it here, he said that we were all SAD people!

I noticed mine are a looking a bit uneven, mentioned to the dealer and got a fob off but I'll be keeping a close eye on them.

We had the same problem when we first got the car but now it's done over 10k miles the problem has gone away. Brakes are nicely bedded in now :D

All sad people who help fund his business. Buy / service somewhere else next time and make a point of telling his manager why he lost the business.

The corrosion builds up at the edge of the disk as has been mentioned - if you don't clean this of it results in the pads being pushed down causing uneven wear in the disks.

i noticed my rear breaks are queeking under light breaking!!! it went and its back again not sure what it is but its being looked at tomorow:)

(i know mine aint a vrs but i presume i have the same breaks)
