Alloy Wheel Vs Surrey Roads

Featured Replies

What do you think the chances of this being hammered out properly are ?

Gotta be worth ago, it'll either work, or I'll need a new wheel anyway :(

Bin it, it is the LE wheels that are cr@p and not fit for purpose , quite a few threads on these, most replace with lookalikes. Sorry mate . You could take a photo of the wheel and pothole and put a claim to your council, worth a punt

The car is getting too old to spend money on :(

This is my 3rd wheel now (Two lost due to Potholes at sub 30mph speeds already)

Get a sett from Halfords then, £550 gets you a full sett with tyres, and if they buckle, you will have more comeback than with Skoda UK .They were Team Dynamic Monzas fitted to LEs so nothing to do with Skoda HQ . That is why people are having trouble getting replacements. Just like a dealer fitting them himself but Skoda UK.

Edit judging by the amount of lead weights it has on it, it looks like it was not round when last balanced as well!

Yeah, ringing around now for a set of cheapos. It's quite hard isn't it ? Everyone sells tyres.

Indeed, this is the second time the rim has buckled on this wheel - first time I was reversing at about... ooh 5 mph.

That's not a wheel that's a dodecahedron!

Which road in Surrey was this done on??

Which road in Surrey was this done on??

There's a stretch of road I drive 4 times a day; Kings Cross Lane, Clay lane and Philanthropic Rd - the latter is just terrible; but today it was a previously unspotted pot-cavern under a railway bridge on Clay Lane - no way to avoid since very tight in there. The majority of the roads around here are just dire - the other half cracked her BMW wheels last year too... It's SUV central for a reason.

I have decided to get a new set of 17's with Goodyear Vector All Seasons on them... if I can find somebody willing to take my money that is; it's bloody hard - I cannot believe there is a recession on! What is it with people ?

For god's sake do not put Halfords wheels on if you are trying to steer clear of crap wheels, Team Dynamics used to be (not sure if they still are) available at Halfords!

Stick a decent manufacturer on.... ideally one who makes OE wheels, better still fit some Audi alloys.

Some of the better manufacturers include:

BBS

Ronal

Speedline

Compomotive

etc

Agreed! Looking at a set of Riva possible these: http://www.mswuk.com/riva/avs-hs.html Whatcha think ?

Edit: too late, I have ordered a set of these and the Goodyear Vectors All Seasons.

ring the council. take a camera out and take a pic. send all evidence in. they will then review and pay for a replacement

What about a set of second hand good condition OEM wheels from a breakers yard?

Got to be better than some cheap new rubbish and cheaper than some good new wheels.

FWIW new OEM alloys are only about £100-£150 each, so if your tyres are ok, you could get a full set of wheels for not much more than cheap wheels and cheap tyres.

Only if its already been reported, and not dealt with in a reasonable time scale. If the hole has not been reported, then the council will do nothing to compensate you.

Its a well known fact that the LE alloy wheels are made of cheese and will dent at any opportunity they get.

He was wanting cheap,("Getting too old to spend money on") the cheapest sett of four of the manufactures is £825, factor in tyres and its £1275 you need to keep the car a further 3 years to be worth the while

^^^ There are plenty of OE wheels on eBay, some brand new with new rubber for a fraction of the new cost.

As I was wanting some new tyres anyway (Still original Pilot Exalto's fitted) and the ones I wanted; Goodyear Vectors only come in 17" - which is better for dealing with the pot holes around hear that 18"'s anyway, I have just plumped for a set of these : http://www.mswuk.com/riva/avs-hs.html with the Vectors all fitted for £950. Sure, It's almost 10% the price of the car - but needed doing, I guess. Hopefully will still be in good condition when I sell next year and either get a new Vrs or jump ship to an A4 Allroad...

I can sell at least two wheels also, probably - and perhaps two tyres. Cheers for the input, I'll be making a case to the council also.

I know the roads you mean. I also find Reigate Road is a nightmare, even though it's meant to be a main road.

Whatcha think? Will comment on driving after a few more miles....

They look quite like the OEM wheels for a vRS non LE

They do not look very sporty, what is that block on the wheels, is it balancing weights they have put on the outside of the wheel

Not the nicest of roads to go down, especially with those concrete slabs down the sides.

Wouldn't you be better off using the A25 and Mid Street? ;)

(My office is just up the road in Nutfield)

Looking at the wheels on the link below.

http://www.mswuk.com/riva/avs-hs.html

That block has the makers name stamped on it, and is part of the wheel.

Hah small world! It's Mid street => Earlswood for the nursery run - so every other route seems like a long way round and full of traffic - A25 also road works currently... Direct route is half the time :)

Edit, you don't drive up here from medway everyday, surely!?
