changing petrol fuel filter

Featured Replies

Right folks i;m gonna sound like a complete novice here but i have just done a service on my octy 1.8 t everything went good. But trying to remove the fuel filter and just cant get the pipes off the original filter. What are the connections?and how in the name of all that is holy do you disconnect them?CHEERS

They have a little plastic clip each side that needs to be pushed inwards, then they pull off. Have a look at the connections at the back drivers side of the engine bay that connect to the fuel rail and carbon cannister. They are the same connector type but are easy to see how they work.

Be gentle though, if you break them it's new fuel lines :)

can i just get in there before an accident happens:

BE CAREFUL WITH THE CLIPS !!!!

cheers for the help guys but still not to sure how they come off will have a look in the morning

There are special tools available like this that make life easier when removing the fuel lines, the clip securing my filter was also a pig to remove and ended up being replaced, might be worth having a new jubilee clip or cable ties ready.

And in case nobody else says, be careful with the clips

CAREFUL WITH THE CLIPS!

Broken clip means new fuel line!

Soo BE CAREFUL WITH THE CLIPS!

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!

Well that's me fudged then mine are broke both ends ????????????

Ow well more work

Surely new speedfit connectors can be spliced onto the hoses? You guys give up too easily.

plus one for the above, def suggest the right clip pliers, these break easy and can be bought cheaply.one can only be so careful after all...do take care doing them thats for sure!

Glad you sorted it. and hope you took notice of the flow direction on the filter!

the words "be careful with the clips" must be banned on this forum :whew:

is be careful with the 'pipe ends' any better?

I had similar issues with my A3 which is all but the same setup. Not so much an issue, but 10 minutes of cursing until I finally managed to poke the clips hard enough with my fingers.
