Is it ok

Featured Replies

To watch a dvd for 30 minutes with the engine off or will it run the battery down too much. My car is only 2 months old.

Without knowing the Amp/hours of the battery and the consumption of the DVD it is not possible to say exactly, however, I would expect the DVD to be a relatively low consumer of battery power. I would be very surprised if 30 mins use would cause a problem.

There is battery management software which will issue a pop-up message on the screen to warn you to start the engine after about half an hour so you are quite safe.

if you are watching on the Columbus, 30 mins should be fine. Having sat stationary on the M25 with the engine off for 1.5 hours with a DVD on, it still started fine.

The message can come on in 30-45 mins or even 15 mins (when you have the fridge plugged in, in the boot.

Think about your laptop with a small battery, it can show a DVD for perhaps 90 Minutes ? A large diesel car battery has between 20 and 40 times the stored energy. So in normal usage, you should never really have a problem with this at all. If the message pops up inside 5-6 hours of useage when you have nothing else running in the car then it is set very conservatively by Skoda.
