Would you swap your fabia I for a fabia II

Featured Replies

I don't have my Fabia any more, but no, I wouldn't.

I think they look horrible (sorry owners!) and badly proportioned. I'm not sure the vRS kits have improved the situation either, if anything I think they're slightly less attractive, especially with the black trim options.

If I was after a hot version though, no - seen too many engine horror stories, but regardless of that, I don't want anything without a manual box and a proper clutch pedal.

Having recently driven 2 different powerful automatic cars for 4500 miles across America in a

3 week road trip I have to say I'm not keen on auto boxes.

The (V6 3.6 292bhp 260lb/ft) Dodge Charger wasn't so bad but the (V6 3.7 305bhp 280lbft) Mustang was so dopey.

Plant the foot in the mustang, 3 seconds later the car does what you wanted to happen 3 seconds ago.

Had a couple of really scary overtakes on single lane roads thanks to this.

Dsg is slightly different to auto tho don't u think with a double clutch system that is tried and tested over and over for nearly 10years +??

I'm not saying they are the same beast, but I found the lack of control

a bit irritating. No point having 300 ponies under your foot if they are asleep.

I've heard lots of great stuff about the dsg system, and am changing cars soon

myself. My budget will allow for either a manual or S-Tronic variant of the car I'm after.

But the fact is I just don't trust them. More to go wrong and massively expensive when

it does I'm sure. It's okay if you're buying new and have warranty to fall back on i suppose

but I'm buying used.

How much does a new pair of clutches cost when they need replacing?

I also prefer to use indy garages but if I owned one of these fancy cars with the groovy

auto box I'd have to use the main agent. I'd rather keep out of the dealer trap if possible.

But I couldn't be sure my (or any) indy had the proper training to work on these gearboxes

So it's manual all the way for me, been driving too long to know any better I guess.

The clutches are not as much as you'd think and they do seem to last a long time in DSG boxes because by design you don't slip the clutch much like in an manual. I'd be surprised if they don't last 100k+ miles at least unless driven like a lunatic.

Off topic I know but I do wish Skoda made proper vans.

I'd have one in a heartbeat. Mine is very tired now...

Where they really fail is the MPV market. Private hire drivers would buy them up in bulk...

But I guess they are not allowed to step on the toes of VW and Seat.

Don't whatever you do buy one of the newer Kangoo's, I drive one at work and I swear to God they are made of chocolate and not very nice chocolate at that! :giggle:

A lwb caddy with side door is my favourite, then a remap ;), but can't really justify

the expense when this one's still going. Splashed over £1500 on

it in January after a 35mph cambelt failure which needed extensive

work to rebuild the engine, it's all new in there really.

Then the starter motor siezed requiring a new one.

That was after I'd spent nearly £90 on a oversize new HD battery thinking

it was the battery that was knackered, With the new one fully charged it still

wouldn't even turn over the van, then the penny dropped...

Currently it has a knackered bearing, really knackered top mounts,

a significant boost leak, a glowplug issue and could do with 2 tyres soon.

Apart from that its spot on :dull:

I only paid 700 for the van mind...

If I did, I would have a Monte Carlo or a mk2 Octavia Cr170. Nothing else interests me.

Hello, this is my first post on here

Shame they never made a Mk1 Estate Tdi VRS , now that would have been a great Car!

A lwb caddy with side door is my favourite,

THAT'S the one! Drove that in my last job and it rocks!

That was when the lwb Caddy should have made it's début in your life! :giggle:

Maybe at the end of 2013. By then the kangoo will owe me nothing.

No.
