Lumbar Support not working

Featured Replies

My lumbar support in my 2008 Octavia VrS has given up the ghost! The adjustment knob just rotates without connecting to the mechanicals inside the seat.

I have a Skoda extended warranty but this does not provide cover. My dealer estimates two/three hours labour @ approx. £85 ph, which is a bit steep.

I appreciate that a rolled-up towel would do a decent job but my dodgy back would appreciate something more substantial.

Does any one have any suggestions please?

I dont even think the lumbar support in my new car even does anything. I have turned the knob fully back and forth and can feel no difference.

If it's just the mechanics that have "popped out" from the socket its not 2..3 hours of labor. It takes about 10..15 minutes to remove the seat from the car and the seat cover and maybe 25 to put it all back. However I can see how they might want to approach it:

1. call the electronics specialist to remove airbag plug

2. take out seat, remove seat cover

3. investigate reason for malfunction

4. reconnect mechanics

5. put back seat cover

6. install seat in car

7. call electronics specialist to connect airbag plug

8. scan ecu for possible error code (missing airbag), reset error code

9. etc..

It has been a continuing problem since 2001 which Skoda has never addressed . The same seats are used in LHD and RHD cars and the mechanics are not a mirror image for each side . Unfortunately the design is less than perfect for the driver's seat in the UK . Take a look at the pictures at the URL below . Ties are the best solution that I have found , the garage replacement solution of replacing the frame lasted 6 months for me , because of the basic design flaw .

haven't got an issue with mine, but are they likely to be the same being electrically operated??

  • 5 months later...

My L&K lumbar support switch doesnt seem to do anything..just a click but no apparent movement. The electric seats work ok so its probably not a fuse but does anyone know what fuse it might be on so I can check?

I have the same opinion and my car isnt even 2 weeks old yet.

Never made any difference even when car was brand new. Best to assume seat does not have adjustable lumbar feature!

I actually tried it a few times lately and have come to the conclusion it does work its just that the amount of adjustment is so minimal as to make virtually no appreciable difference. I dialed it back and forth and could feel something so have now left it fully extended i.e protruding into my back. Maybe i just imagined it was working but it does seem a very poor lumbar support. My last car never had it all so at least its a slight improvement.

Another vote for the zip ties repair from me. Worked fine using those. Even when you look at it the lumbar adjustment was so minimal you will not be surprised how little change it makes. All it does it gently squeeze the plastic backing together to make it buldge out. Pretty naff design imo.

What would confirm my original post would be the question - Has anyone ever suffered a passenger seat failure ? ... probably not .
