EGR Valve failed - my options?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, my egr valve has failed and the RAC man has said it is far far too loose and will need replacing.

From a search on here I have seen the darkside development egr delete kit, but am I right in thinking I would need someone to map out the sensorsHi guys, my egr valve has failed and the RAC man has said it is far far too loose and will need replacing.

From a search on here I have seen the darkside development delete kit, but am I right in thinking I would need someone to map out the sensors? What sort of kit is required to do it, can it be done via VAGcomm?

Secondly, a couple of mechanics at work over me some favours after I sorted out their CVs. One of them has suggested that a gasket with a smaller appature hole between the egr valve & exhaust inlet pipe would trick the car into reading the air flow correct, meaning my engine light wouldn't come on. Then whatever the egr valve does (is nothing) wouldn't be a problem. No maping of sensors required.

Can anyone advise on the suggestions above?

Many thanks guys

Apologies on the formating, tapatalk isn't working with edited posts ATM! :(. Will correct when I am home later.

I have just sold a used egr valve on eBay from a BKD for peanuts!

As a temporary measure I would just blank off the egr pipe for now - the CEL will be on but it will run. You could also disconnect the vacuum hose and plug it with a bolt.

If you go down the Darkside route (highly recommended) you need the map tweaking, you can't do it with VCDS.

What symptoms did you have before and when the EGR failed?

I had a fiddle with the EGR and didn't connect the air inlet back back on to the throttle body properly.....leading to the engine to go into limp home mode. RAC man came out and re-connected it for me & the car runs fine now. He had a look at the EGR valve and explained it wasnt blocked, it was't actuating properly hence causing the CEl to come on due to the pressure not meeting the engines demand (something along those lines...).

The EGR valve causes my CEL to come on, but *touch wood* it has no effect on the driving of the car. I just don't like the CEl light being on in case it hides a bigger problem behind it.
