Plastic door strips

Featured Replies

Has anyone removed the plastic protective strips from the doors? If so, could you please post up some pics.

I'm considering it at the moment, just weighing up if its worth it.

Thank you

I've done mine - it's a lot of hard work but well worth it!!

Certainly looks better. How did you go about removing them?

My method might be considered a bit extreme though

Fitted doors from a base spec car. But only because the original doors were rusting due to so bad repair work. However if you do remove them be prepared that the paint under them might not be very nice.

Dont bother. Paint underneath will be all bubbled

Mine weren't bubbled and neither were Dark Heros. It tends to be the silvers that have the bubbling paint

Ahh, mine is silver too :(

I'll probably leave them in that case as the last thing I want to do is induce problems.

Tha is for the pics though guys, very helpful indeed :)

Very nice, how do you remove them? Are they just stuck on?

Heat gun and some fishing wire. After that I found petrol good to remove the adhesive :)

i had myn colour coded because was worried about rust underneath. fishing wire get it off then use a toffee wheel to remove the residue

I've got a spare toffee wheel....

So has everyone with silver cars experienced the rust/bubbling underneath?

Cheers

My 2006 with 50k had bad bubbling paint under them, mine was also silver.

Has anyone noticed minor bubbling on the boot lid too? I've had 2 silver VRS's now and they've both done it.

My black and yellow ones both had bubbling! So did my silver octy vrs mk1

My boot near the reg lights are bubbling :(

Got a couple of dings that need attention so considering another bodyshop trip.... Read all the posts about the paint under the strips so not gonna bother unless the whole car gets resprayed
