1.4 16v Head

Featured Replies

Is it possible to transplant a 1.4 16V head onto a 1.6 8V block? Will it give me any gains? While I need a reprogrammed ECU?

i have the same question

Both,

Have a look at this site it may answer some of your questions.

fabia_rulers, didn't realise you are in Panama when I answered your clutch question, sorry. The above site may be able to help, well it will give you the VW part numbers, which should enable you to order from the USA or from Ireland where they are based.

Hope this is of some use.

Jon

The 1.4 8V is a single OHC engine and the 1.4 16V a dual OHC one. If the 16V head did fit on the 8V block, how are the twin cams going to be driven? Will all the oil and coolant passageways line up? (Looking at ETKA, I would guess not). Then there are differences in inlet and exhaust manifolds, fuel feed, clutch etc etc. My feeling is that this is a total non-starter.

Plus, personal feeling, would you want to lose the gutsiness of an 8v for a 16v head?

would prob be cheaper to drop a used 1.8t in...?

Indeed, but defeats the point of having a 1.6 while the vRS is on order... ;)

Rob.

why tune it if an RS is on order?

Because it's there... :D

Rob.

Thx to everyone for their answers. I think I'll try and get a TSR head later on for the 1.6. And just like Rob said I'm modifying the 1.6 becuase it's there.
