Brake fluid uprate - impacts?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've seen a lot of people recommend a brake fluid upgrade to the Fabia vRS to get a better feel in the brake paddle.

I'd like to confirm a few things -

1. Is it SuperDot 4 I would want?

2. How often does that need replacing compared to the OEM stuff?

3. How do I prevent the dealer from swapping it for the wrong stuff again - i.e. does it need to get noted somewhere?

On no 3 in particular I have some concerns as if I forget to mention it when it comes up to that service it wouldnt be very nice ;)

1. Yes

2. Depends on usage (trackdays, etc) and probably manufacturer ;)

3. Only way is to tell them at the service not to change it and make sure they write it on the job card! Same with the air filter ;)

Chris

yes dont get dot 5.1 and certainly not dot 5 super dot 4 is a superior brake fluid than those

Thanks for the replies. I definitely won't be using it on the track (ever). I do mostly motorway miles but starting off in town. Mileage about 500 miles/week at the present, reached 5k on the clock now :D

if you dont intend to do trackdays, or dont reguarly go maximum pasty on some serious B roads then there is no benifit to uprating the fluid.

ive only ever managed to boil mine on a trackday.. (and boil superdot 4 on a trackday too :D)

I do enjoy a bit of a B road every once in a while ;)

Main reason for wanting this is increased pedal-feedback. I don't think I'm going to hit the temperature limits generally speaking though :D

The fluid will not improve pedal feel.. unless the current stuff has airbubbles in (which i doubt, as you WOULD know about it... spongey)

the problem is that the std vRS calipers are a naff design and offer no feedback whatsoever. when i upgraded to 312mm and ds2500 i kept the std fluid at first, and it was fine, until the trackday, even then it took alot to boil it, even with ds2500s that are reknown for running hot... i even had my discs with a purple tinge to them :D

 purple discs, hmmm :D

Cant afford full upgrades like that at the moment, Mrs would kill me :(

Suppose pad upgrades then

Thanks for the info :D

I've only now had chance to check the brake fluid in my vRS which is very low, and had read people recommending castrol's super dot 4 which ive used before and do notice a difference which i was going to put in. Now i thought brake fluid was a clear color but when i check the resevoir its got a yellow tint to it. Is this normal? Is this the standard fluid colour? so am i safe to fill it up?

its coloured yes
