Hi all,

As I am a new owner to a used Skoda, I would like some inputs and trouble shooting of my car. I would prefer to do it myself, and so need some guidance regarding this.

Recently, after driving about a 1000kms on my Used Skoda, I found that at some point it raised the RPM in Idle. usually it is 900RPM in idle, but when i see the problem, it raises to 2000-3000 for about 10-20secs. this may happen while driving too in slow speeds around 20-40km/h.

After this, i can smell fuel smell in the cabin. So when i shut the engine OFF and try to restart the engine, it does not start. I crank it 4-5 times, and then the engine behaves normal.

The problem is very unexpected and no other indications are seen. Temperature, Fuel gauge all seem fine.

The only change i see is that the mileage indicator which would be showing 400kms remaining on the tank of fuel, start showing 500-550 when restart, then gradually settles down to 400kms as earlier.

So please advice me on this. Should I take it to the Authorized Skoda shop to get this rectified, or can I do something at home?

I hope I have given fairly good explanation of the problem, But if you feel you need more info do let me know.

Thanks,

Bijoy

it sounds like a faulty sensor is causing to much fuel to be injected, I guess the fuel you can smell in the cabin is unburnt fuel in the exhaust and the reason it does not start afterwards is because the engine is flooded with fuel. There are 2 temperature sensors, one feeds the temperature gauge, and the other tells the ECU whats going on, if the latter is faulty it will cause the car to overfuel a bit like driving with an old fashioned choke on all the time.
