I had a clear out today and found a fully functional wiper stalk for my old Mk1 Octavia. I replaced it thinking it was the root of the problem with my back wiper, but it turned out to be the wiper motor. Its from an L&K 04 reg Mk1 Octavia and has the switch on top which allows variation in the intermittent wipe. It also controls the trip computer and the front and rear washers and back wiper and is in excellent condition.

The part number of the replacement (which was identical) is on the box I still have for it and it is 4B0 953 503H.
