immob issue

Featured Replies

I just bought another vrs and am having some issues, have scanned her and 17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer is coming back in the log. When i turn her on (with both keys), the key symbol flashes up on the dash. So the keys are now not being recognised by the immob.

I know i need the skc to recode the keys to the immob through vagcom, what i want to know is why this has just happened? The battery has been flat on the car, but i have changed batteries on octavias more than i care to remember, leaving them without a battery without ever having an issue before, so why now?

any ideas?

The engine should start and then cut out after 3 seconds. Does it?

Can you see both Engine[01] and Instruments[17]?

well it did do that, no it doesnt start at all, just gonna go put a voltage meter on the battery.

i can read 01 and 17, this is what i get

ok so 9.56v on the battery after a charge, so it needs reconditioning or a new battery, will swap it out for now as i have a few that do work..

still what it was doing was as you said, start for 3 then cut out.

A bad/low battery will cause all sorts of problems with the immo.

  • Author

will do the battery when i am back in, and see if it changes anything, am not that optomistic though as you said low battery does cause a lot of issues.

cheers dude, will post progress later!

  • Author

right decent battery in, and car is still doing the same thing, both keys will allow it to start, but it dies almost instantly, still showing the same immob fault code when i scan her.

its a right pain, cant see why this would happen?

I've no idea if the Octavia is the same but on my old LCR I had to resolder the plugs on the back of the dash/clocks.

There's a known problem with those but as I say I've no idea with the Octavia

hmm i hope not! did your key just stop working one day?

Not sure whats happened here, Have you checked the transponders are in the keys? I can remove your immo from your ECU if required, Would need you to send me your ECU, Can return the same day. PM me if your interested

First I suggest you read MB22, MB23 and MB24 in Instruments[17]. They will give a good idea of the problem (is it seeing the key, etc).

MB24.1, MB24.2 and MB24.4 will tell you if you are locked out. I've seen screwed up clusters with a high value in MB24.1 and MB24.2 (e.g. If MB24.1 is 100 minutes, then you have to wait that long with the ignition on before it will unlock).

  • Author

thanks guys, will try what you send rw and post back, thanks again!

so perhaps am locked out but not that the key isnt totally uncoded? (just temporarily). Can i adjust the values back down or out?

i assume the transponders are in, will check black vrs, thanks for the offer  , will pm you if needed, once i have tried what rw suggests

Mines didn't stop altogether but it did go from totally fine to hardly working in about a week, I'd try the others advice first as the solder issue might not apply to the Octy :)

...Can i adjust the values back down or out?...

No, you will have to sit there WITH THE IGNITION ON until the value(s) reach zero.

oh, that sucks, gonna scan the car again now!

Are those Instruments MBs?

Each measuring block should have 4 values

e.g.

MB22.1 should be 0 or 1 (Instruments thinks start should be permitted )

MB22.2 should be 0 or 1 (ECU responding to Instruments)

MB22.3 should be 0 or 1 (key condition OK)

MB22.4 should be 0 to 8 (number of adapted keys)

I'm at home today so these are from memory.

Select Control Module

17-Instruments

Meas. Blocks - 08

Click on the first Up button until 22 is displayed in the group box and click on go. The 4 boxes to the right should have values in them. The first box displays MB22.1, the second box displays MB22.2, etc. i.e. The number before the decimal is the group and the number after is the field number.

Repeat for the other two groups.

Here's an unrelated examples of measuring blocks from the Ross-tech website http://ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/m-blocks.html

ok thanks dude, so i get in;mb22 = 1 - 1 - 1 - 2mb23 = 1 - 1 - 1 - 6mb24 = 0.0 - 0.0 - 0.0 - 0.0Well the weirdest thing just happened....after doing all this, i noticed the key symbol has gone...the car now starts....

That's good. You've probably had the ignition on for long enough for a lock to timeout. IIRC, the invalid key lockout takes 10 minutes. If the cluster has been reading 'ghost keys' due to low battery voltage, then waiting 10 minutes is often all it takes. Fingers crossed.
