Front suspension arms and bushes

Featured Replies

This may be of some interest and save someone else from buying the wrong bits. :(

I have a 58 plate Roomster 3 1.9 TDi and had been getting a bit of clonking over speed humps occasionally, so, having read about the chocolate front suspension arm bushes, thought I'd order a pair of the lower arms and a set of matching Meile console bushes. I got a new pair of droplinks as well, while I was at it.

My independant mechanic went to work on it yesterday and i got the call , saying the suspension arms and bushes were the wrong ones. Oops! I did a lot of reading on here and double checked on the Euro car parts site, amongst others.

All of them indicated arms and bushes like these:

However, my Roomy has this type of arm and bush fitted:

Well that'll teach me! Has anyone else had a similar issue at all? I'm guessing that mine must be a very early car that had sat around for years without being registered, but that's just a theory.

Be interested to hear any thoughts on this.

On the plus side, my new droplinks appear to have cured the clonking. I do have a lot of speedhumps around where I live, so I guess that's why they only lasted just over 30k miles.

Oh, put my winter wheels on today as well.

The early Romsters had the MKI Octavia arms......as the console bush is the same as MKI Octavia/ MKIV Golf.......

Yes, I did wonder if the 2006 models were different, just never figured that one on a 58 plate would have been one of the earlier models.

If they are exactly the same as the Mk1 octy and Mkiv Golf, then that does give me cheaper supply options when I do replace them. Suppose i have to offload the bits that don't fit somewhere now.
