Water pump what model year had the plastic impeller?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've red in the past that the water pump in the vrs petrol octavia was poorly design with a plastic impeller - is this accurate? Was there a certain model year this was rectified?

Thanks in advance

Don't they all?!

You might be right, maybe it was never rectified but heard they fail

They can indeed. It was the same in both my Mk 1 and mk 2 octavia's. I remember thinking, I can't believe they didn't sort ot out on the mk 2! :-(

It has been sorted now as far as I know. It's still plastic but much stronger

my wife had a beetle convertible with one of these pumps, when we changed it at 60,000 miles it only had 3 of the 8 fans on the impeller, mechanic said if one had got trapped in the others it would of snapped the belt. it was replaced with a metal impeller pump.

Hmmm interesting read, not sure whether to change my water pump - cars done 60k

Asked my local indy specifically if I they could fit an uprated "metal impeller" waterpump during the cambelt change, they said they never do, the metal ones are aftermarket ones, the genuine VAG part is a stronger plastic impeller that does the job according to them!
