Anyone flushed their coolant

Featured Replies

I did it at weekend did to a silly mistake of introducing blue coolant into it (its far from pink now anyway so trust me it wasnt so hard to get this wrong as I didn't realise the special stuff was so important).

The colour coming out was not good.....a bit brown to be honest, and a bit blue even though I only introduced half a litre....so probably a good incentive to flush the crap out the car.

However its now nice and flushed so more of a decent red colour lol which judging by my father new skodas is the colour is SHOULD be !

Yeah did mine not so long ago

Usually gets changed and flushed out when the water pump gets replaced.

Not sure on all cars of course but the red colour means its long life anti-freeze.

I bought a 1 litre bottle of the VAG G12 coolant from Ebay, it's the pink stuff which is longlife for the coolant system.

Anyone have a decent guide or advice for doing this? Wouldn't mind doing it

There is a tap/valve at the bottom rad hose to drain

generally speaking.......

It's best to drain it warm........so get engine warmish.....and turn heating to full heat and mid fan speed..............then shut engine off........drain down undoing the drain valve on bottom of rad (passenger side)..........(careful hot liquid)....

.......then remove thermostat and stick garden hose in and "reverse" flush until clear water comes out of drain valve............close valve and refill with correct amount of coolant...

Remember to leave the heating dial turned to max heat all the time as this opens the valve to the pipework for the heat exchanger to allow the coolant from the engine to heat the inside of the car.

Also if really bad get some rad flush and follow instructions on bottle.....

Haynes will give you a description of how to flush....and how to remove the thermostat........

B)

looking at doing mine this weekend so thanks for that advice
