New weapon of mass economy - SEAT Leon

Featured Replies

As some of you have no doubt heard or read I am leaving Skoda next week and I have accepted a job working for Jaguar Landrover playing with their brand new pre production and concept vehicles near Gaydon. This means a 45 mile jaunt down the motor way so the Fabia wasnt really the most economical way to do a daily commute so a diesel was in order. With a very modest budget I set about looking for a MK1 Octavia or a Leon with a TDi engine. 90 or 110 guise, wasnt fussed tbh. I did find a very reasonable priced Octavia Ambient SE with a 130PD in it but that was snapped up sharpish. Trying to avoid 'high' mileage vehicles as im going to be putting a fair ammount on it myself with the commuting. So as luck would have it I found this on Pistonheads.

Body wise its very tidy in my opinion. quite a few washing scratches, most I would think I can polish out or at least improve a lot with my Buff Daddy and some Dodo Juice Lime Prime. Couple or very small dings in the doors on the drivers side, all about right for an eight year old car.

Drives superb, I took VCDS along with my, no faults in anything. Turbo seems to be fine, no symptoms of sticking. Think it could do with an alternator pulley, seems to click every now and again so I suspect the clutch is seizing up in it. Air-con is nice and cold although I will try and regas is before I go he he.

All in all a very good buy.

Is it a PD130?

Looks pretty tidy.

Another fellow Seat owner. Hehe.

Phil

Tidy looking motor Tech1e - good luck with the new job.

I got told off for standing still too long when at Gaydon last - we were progressing through from one area to another, just where there was a pre-production V12 Zagato!

No mate a TDi S is a 90bhp ALH. the SE is a 110bhp ASV and I think the SX was the 130bhp ASZ, the PD came later. SEAT were still using the TDi long after everyne else had gone PD.

Nice little buy - should be just the job for the longer commute :)

All the best with the new job - sounds great!

I take you'll be adding cruise control for even greater mpg???

lol, yes mate.

Been a long time since I added it to one of my own cars

get it on veg oil mate, sooooooo cheap to run its unreal, and thats the best engine ha. the 110 injectors transformed mine especially when running on veg.

Bookers 20litres £18 thats 90ppl saving 50ppl

running at 50% veg thats a 25ppl saving and the car wont even flinch

oh and after repeated trials, my foot is better at mpg than cruise............. alot better!

Ah right. I thought it might have been but then saw the year on the reg and thought surely it won't be a non-PD (mine is an early 2004 '53 plate).

Trusty little engines actually. My dad has the 110 in his VW Sharan and been running a TDI tuning box on it for a while with some good results.

It depends. If you are trying to get better MPG then it's quite easy to but if not then cruise can really help as it takes away any times where you might boot it a bit more to pass etc.

We got 61mpg doing 70mph down to Kent a few weeks back on cruise control.

Phil

true, but i usually abg 70mpg at 60mph on the foot rather than cruise, usually 10 mpg difference

Not sure what we would get at 60mph. Never drive that slow due to the gearing (6th at 60mph is pushing it a bit really and the revs are too low). Seems much happier at 70mph+

Sod driving at 60mph, I want to get to work before I die of boredom.

Haha. Yeh. I used to drive at that speed in the Felicia but don't bother now that we have a car that will get great economy at 70+.

If you're interested I think my dad got his tuning box from ebay at a reasonable price. No idea what gains he's got but the big bus definitely seems to move a bit better!

Of course mate, always.

Looks a good car that fella

Im impressed with my Seat... and absolutely loving the economy :)

As for the supposedly cheaper build quality than a Skoda... thats not what I've found at all

Cheers

Damo

I think it depends on the model Damo, but they're certainly solidly put together.

Just depends how long you keep yours to find out! ;)
