Slippery Steering wheel

Featured Replies

Hi

My Golf has a leather trimmed multi-function steering wheel but the leather is really slippery. Can anyone recommend a product or method to bring some tackiness to the steering wheel? The golf is pretty new so it might just take a bit of time but by comparison the Fabia steering wheel has been excellent since day one!

Cheers

I imagine the supplying dealer sprayed it with dashboard shine or something when valeting it. Nightmare...my Cee'd was the same and wears off. I used a bit if soapy water and a cloth a few times too to take the edge off...

Hth.

I did try a bit of soapy water but it's not made much of a difference. I'll have another go this weekend to see if i can improve the feel of the leather.

Little bit of talc maybe?

I doubt you'll want it tacky just not slippy.

Yeah definitely don't want it tacky, poor choice of words by myself but i need more 'feel' from the wheel, I've slipped off the steering wheel a couple of times (probably shouldn't use one hand when turning the wheel right enough) but still it left me a little embarrassed :giggle: by the experience.

I usually use leather cleaner and a gentle rub with the green side of those dish sponges if you get my drift?!

Followed with a wipe with a soft, clean, dry microfibre cloth, jobs a goodden!

Go to your local poundshop most of them do leather cleaning wipes that are quite good.

sandpaper.......

I had this on a car once, I went to HELLFords and bought some matt finish dash wipes (Armorall I think) and used nearly a whole pack cleaning the wheel. Did the trick.

Went to Halfrauds yesterday and picked up some Armorall leather wipes, used quite a lot of them but now i have a proper feeling leather steering wheel at last!

Cheers everyone for the help.

Wipe over it with a rag sprayed with all purpose cleaner (APC), try it at 10:1 and then strengthen as / if necessary.

Ooh, never mind I see you've sorted it
