anorher mdi

Featured Replies

Yes.

CarSystem.pl have a good reputation and I have used them myself. £109 is a very good price especially as it includes the additional flylead.

The only thing you need to complete the OE retro fit is a flylead trim P/N: 4F0 035 909 (Pictures in post #18 on this thread).

Thanks man!

its referring to the boot mount changer, not the one in the Bolero. The Bolero is listed as fully compatible above.

Woohoo! That's what I wanted to here .

Last quick one, do I loose the aux in in my arm rest if I go MDI?

Yes, but if you remove the Aux port and extend the hole (double the size) the MDI flylead trim fits in it's place for an OEM look to the retrofit.

Good plan kb! Will I need any vagcom stuff doing or is it just plug and play?

You can buy a cable for the MDI with a 3.5mm headphone plug on the end -I have one that I got from eBay and it works fine.

Nice one, that's what I like to here! So no reprogramming of the car needed then? Just plug the kit in and go right?

Programming may be required.

OK, it probably will be needed to tell the car and stereo that the MDI unit is installed.

Seriously though it is a five minute job (and that includes a cup of tea).

I might be wrong but I thought that the mdi was solely connected to the stereo. Not the car per see so it shouldn't need coding. Not quite the same situation but when I swapped my factory Swing stereo for a VW rcd 310 the mdi just worked.

Edit just had a thought about your car -does the stereo predate the mdi. I don't know how long the system has been around.

When I added MDI to my retro-fitted Columbus it worked (sort of) but to get full functionality and stability I had to code it.

It does connect to the back of the head unit but two if the wires are CAN High and CAN Low, so the car does know its there and can communicate with it.

It then appears as a new controller in the CAN Gateway list.

When i fitted mine i told the gateway via VCDS that it was fitted and then the headunit saw the MDI.

Cool, I think I'll be nipping to a skoda garage for the VCDS thing then when its fitted. Just incase anyone wondered, I have a bolero in a 2009 limited edition. Probably should have started the thread with this!

MDI didn't need coding when I fitted it to my Columbus.

Feel free to PM me if you are going to be near Holmfirth at any point as I have VCDS
