What do you recon? When travelling down the country i will be passing by manchester, and wondered if i should drop into awesome gti for a map.

My old bus has done near 200k and i drive her moderatley to keep her moving and turbo clean but rarely rag her, fancied a bit more oomph just for economy and making her more useable.

I already have solid flywheel, new gearbox oil (from skoda as recomended by theyre system) new cambelt tensioner water pmp etc etc. I have bought my voucher, just wanted to check with you guys as to your opinions.

What would i get increase? She has 110 injectors installed

With 110 injectors and a map you're probably looking at 140 ish.

I'll let you know how much more crazy things get when I have finished tinkering with mine lol

Wow, I wouldn't have expected that, I thought for 140 turbo and intake needed changed too. Not that I would complain.

Nah, the old turbo is good for up to 130-140 at a push if it's in good nick and your fuelling is good.

Hell a tuning box on a 110 will get you 130-140... A map should be able to get you that much more safely.

And if you want even safer...

...Straight through exhaust. Keep those EGTs down and jobs a good 'un.

If you want to get a bit more on the cheap...

...Vent arch mod.

Remove the snow screen... Or remove the snorkel and get some ducting down to your front bumper.

1.8T pancake pipe.

They're all towards the cheaper end of the scale. Help your turbo breathe more cleanly.

What's a snow screen?

Filter inside the air snorkel. Designed to prevent crud getting in but your filter does that job...

Ah I see, and ill get some metal ducting, sorted for a cold air feed aswell

200 k wow she's like new my old tdi had 285k on it when I sold it but I would definetly have it mapped just because you can

Trouble is im using a voucher that was gifted so im destined for awesome, just an off the shelf map that is reliable and safe.

4 hrs drive though yikes. but should do there and back on less than £50

So today i took the cat off, got a pinch bar and stood it up in a bin, tok a lump hammer to cat casing until all sides were loose.....then

Put the outlet side of the cat over the pinch bar an basically smashhed it through, took a while to whittle it all down to bits that would fall out readily and reassembled.

Looks like it has a cat, no grinding no blows, but the turbo - wow!!!! the whistle is much louder and the throttle response is alot more willing, happy with that mod.

1.8t pancake ordered, just need to duct the air box now.

Dunno if you've done the vent arch mod if you still have an SMIC but useful to keep response good under load for a while - no use cooling the air going into the air box if the air is eventually heated up so much because of a heat-soaked intercooler. Just a thought

i removed the flute and have side vents. that any good?

Drill wheel arch liner behind intercooler with a decent sized cutter, around 22Amm should do it and do a few holes, also comes in useful for keeping brakes cool if you do both sides

Made a big differance on my vrs until i went front mount

so now thats the pancake fitted nice big metal job, and holes cut inner wing, obviously also hollow cat, and tbh it feels like its been mapped already, so fair looking forward to monday now
