Mk1 Octavia VRS clutch change (and possibly dmf)

Featured Replies

My clutch had been slipping for a while, just over-revving a bit under harsh acceleration, but over the weekend, it's finally given up I think.

The car still drives, but it feels like you're taking off in 5th gear, very sluggish, and when you do give it a bit of throttle, it just free revs up the rev range without much acceleration at all.

The possible good news is there isn't any juddering or any different noise on idle, the clutch pedal feels as consistent as always. So I'm hoping it's just the clutch and not dual mass flywheel.

Anybody have any thoughts? Anybody recently gotten theirs done?

(Car is a 2002, with 131k miles, and has always been serviced on time, and well looked after)

Thanks.

You would be advised to change to a G60 single mass flywheel and VR6 clutch kit. I've just done mine and its fantastic.

Cheers. How much did it cost you? Parts, labour etc? (I'm bracing myself for a shock)

All in? Probably 500 or so.

Radically less than the vRS components. :)

Clutch kit was £240 and flywheel was £113 that's just parts so you will have to add labour. As said probably about £500 all in but so worth it.

We are clutch specialists, PM me if you need a price :)

240 for clutch kit, i only paid 110quid altho i save on labour by doing it myself

the smf def is an improvement!

I got the clutch kit from GSF in Feb this year and for an LUK it was £93

Cheers for the help folks.

I rang Skoda here in the Rep of Ireland, and the price was, well just...... a lot. So I don't think I'll be going that route.

I hear good things about the G60 smf and VR6 clutch kit. Is it a direct replacement?

Also, where have people bought these from?

Does anybody know what it's like in comparison to the CG-Motorsport and other kits?

VR6 clutch from here http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g3clutch.php bottom one at 110 quid

G60/GTi flywheel 028105269BX about 160 quid with surcharge you have to pay

Flywheel bolts N90206103 x 6 about 3 quid

Clutch bolts N10101001 x 6 about 3 quid

Well worth doing and makes the clutch alot lighter and more bearable in traffic and its stronger to boot

Some people hv mixed reviews on this company. I got the whole lot fitted in march. Never looked back!!!

Hi Col,

From Galway myself too. Same car and I can't see mine being on the same clutch for very long either. Just interested in who you get to do this kind of work around Galway? I do most things with the car myself but I draw the line at the Gearbox coming out. Let us know what you decide to go for anyway.

Can't access Ebay in work, but I'll have a look later. Thanks

How does it feel compared to before? Happy with it?

Hey Michael, I'm still not sure!

I do most work myself too, but like yourself, I don't fancy splitting the box and engine on a cold, wet and dirty driveway in November!

I'll be asking around, as I know a lot of places won't work with parts they haven't supplied themselves, 1: they won't guarantee them (fair enough) and 2: they can't make any markup on the parts, so they only get labour.

I've been asking around, I should know more in the next couple of days.

On another note, has anybody got any thoughts on this:

It was recommended to me by a friend, and I can get it delivered for about £150.

EDIT: On further inspection, I don't think that link fits.

I got mine VR6/G60 from darksidedevelopments.co.uk

Fantastic setup, bolts straight on! :)

I am just about to get the stage2 remap. and it can handle the power with no problem.

Cant really remember wat the old clutch is like to be honest.

The set up will hv a very slight drone from it while its idling.....nothing major. jus cause its a solid flywheel instead of dual mass.

Any other questions just ask:)

Think alot depends what lower mount you have fitted, i have full superpro and for first 1000 miles it was awful but after that carnt tell its there now apart from can get power down better and my left knee no longer hurts when sat in traffic from trying to press pedal down

I put a vr6 clutch and single mass flywheel on mine when the standard clutch gave up. Direct bolt and and did it myself. Be careful though as the gearbox is bloody heavy. I dropped mine on my finger whilst doing the job and had to go to hospital to be stitched back together :giggle:

What is the main difference between the VR6 clutch and standard? Can the standard LUK clutch take a remap?

What power are you currently running? As I may remap in the future myself, but that'll be once I've gotten my 180bhp back that I've been missing : (

I don't mind the noise at idle at all, this is the quietest car I've owned in a long time!!!

I'm 99% sure mine is standard. I've gotta say I've never found the pedal too bad, but then again when I've driven other cars I've nearly put my left foot through the floor sometimes!

Whoops, sore dose, lucky you didn't do proper damage.

Well I ordered and got the G60/VR6 kit fitted, and it's back home again : )

Don't notice any more noise at idle, and the pedal is sooooo light compared to before.

One other thing I noticed was a slight grind on startup, no sure what that is.

But otherwise seems to drive fine, although I've not given it much right foot yet.

Is there a bedding-in period for the new clutch?

Edited by Col200sx

Just dont use clutch to hard for first few hundred miles and it should bed in in no time

Did you have to make any modifications to fit the g60 flywheel and vr6 clutch ie the slave cylinder or anything?

I payed £75 from GSF for the clutch (LUK vr6) and flywheel from badger 5 was £100 and around £10 for the shorter flywheel bolts ....then £100 labour for a garage to fit it

No you don't have to upgrade the slave cylinder direct bolt on replacement, all you need is the shorter g60 flywheel bolts
