What winter tyres for my VRS DSG (petrol)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Off to Scotland for Xmas and New year and was wondering what winter tyres would be good to put onto my VRS. Don't want to go too mad on costs but in the same vain will need something that will be suitable for the conditions up North at that time of year.

Thanks

Sean

Im running Avon Ice Touring ST's on mine. think i paid about 80-90 quid a corner last year for them (16's)

I'm running Nexan winguards, they are £73 on oponeo at the minute thats in 225/40/18, possibly not as good Contis but better than normal summer tyres.

Kris how do you find the Avons ?

16” or 18”?

16’s will be cheaper (but you need the wheels as well).

My money went on Nokian WR A3’s and will go there next time as well, superb tyre and just £73 each delivered.

16" Avon Ice Touring ST on mine, lovely ride, great grip and better fuel economy that my Conti shod (but not come next spring / summer) 18s

Which is what will be going on mine this weekend once my mud flaps arrive.

16" steel wheels & Hankook winter tyres, £460 all in (delivered, inflated & balanced) from Rainworth Skoda.

Grip awesome, fuel economy improved by 3-5 mpg over 18s.

I took them off my ford focus which I had last year in the rain. Only word I have for them is dependable.

They are a little noisier than the oem contis and mpg is a little worse. Normal for a winter tyre though.

I've certainly not been driving up mountain passes in them but they are great to pull up and down the steep hills near my house.

Snow not rain. Damn phone
