Brake disc upgrade

Featured Replies

From the calliper disc post, I noticed how easy it is to change a front disc. Ive never been happy with brake performance and often thought about upping discs to sonething bigger. Question is ,could I change just discs for bigger, or would it need a change of calliper or pads.

Just change pads to something like carbon Lorain cl5+ ect you be paying well over £100 for brake pads if your serious about stopping power. Cheap £30 pads just don't cut it .

What interested me was that the car had an MOT before it needed one legally and on MOT site discs ( pads?) were highlighted on advisory, but on the certificate I got there was no mention of advisory. Also at first service ( albeit a bit late) ,I was told that front pads looked almost new. These were the ones that caused problems. Perhaps, I've adapted my driving to brake fade ,but since I changed the pads last year ,I've not noticed any problems . And these were average motor factor ones costing less than £30 .

£30 brake pads are what I fit to my wife's car as she drives like miss daisy around towns all day. These pads are fine for this purpose. I fit £ 200 pads as I'm real man who drives hard and does track days lol!

Ditch those crap front pads for quality pads CL5+ or similar change your brake fluid and feel the difference !

Oh I have tarox b32 6 pot callipers with 312mm discs which is why my pads are £200 btw.

Uh-oh, a not a VRS brake upgrade... Bigger disks are going to require different front hubs. As the FS III or whatever system fitted to the "smaller" Fabias is sort of built in to them. Upgrading to VRS spec can be done and should be a good upgrade. You'll need new hubs though. Once on the VRS spec, next upgrade if still not happy would be the VAG 312mm setup.

I've just done the upgrade on mine (from fs brakes to vrs) and the difference is night and day! The middle pedal is so much more confidence inspiring. I used pagid discs and pads with dot 5.1 fluid. However it was expensive :p
