It's not very horny!

Are the horns on all Octavias pretty pathetic, I'd be embarrassed to use mine in public ;-)

Is it easy to fit an aftermarket horn

Edited by Its me

I thought that, until I was retrofitting some fog lights. Then I discovered the left hand one was disconected. (Probably by a mechanic looking for access when fixing the windscreen washer). Much better now but I never use the horn much to care.

As for fitting an after market -having seen nthem up close, I'd say yes.

The access is good enough through the front grills, earthing is through the fittings but the power cables will need to have the OEM connectors removed. There are two horns - one either side - so you can have two aftermarket with high and low tones.

Cant fault the horn on mine, good & loud!

Mine's good too, one of the best I've ever had

Same its a deep "hawl move oot the way ya pleb" like my BMW was.

I thought the octavia had two horns, which can be set in vcds, i think its so you can change the horn sound when in europe

Good lord, the horn is ridonkulously loud on my octy!!

Yep, decent one on mine too.

Certainly got two pedestrians out of the way a few days ago, when they casually started wandering into the road....

Possibly the loudest i've ever owned, but it's got a run for it's money from the 1.6 Austin Maestro Vanden Plas I had as my first car. Dad bought mum a newer car for their anniversary and that's what I got as a hand me down.

Apart from having a sunroof, the horn was the best thing about it cos it was so bloody loud!

Quite pleased to say i've never owned a car with an engine less than 1600cc. :)

Perhaps the lower spec Octavia's get the puny horn from the Fabia?

My vRS and the wifes Scout have twin horns which sound great...

Rubbish horn compared to all other cars I have driven.

a few weeks ago on the way to work with wifey driving & me in the passengers.....

wifey - "the horn is not loud at all !!!"

me - "are u kidding me?!?!?"

wifey - "yeah look" - beep.

stopped at a set of traffic lights....

me - "wind the windows down & press it again"

wifey - "why"

me - "just do it"

let just say, afterwards, she never questioned it again :D

Worst ever horn, fact, is the Austin Metro!

Genuine story, a mate beeped me at a traffic lights cos he'd happened to pull up behind me in one: I looked through/past his car to about two/three cars back cos I thought it was that far away! Only noticed when he started waving at me!! Truly pathetic, like a car with a flat battery.

I find the volume of mine ok, but it's the pitch I don't like; it's higher than most and sounds almost too polite. Being a lower spec Octavia, I suspect I have the Fabia variant. Has anyone else noticed a distinct feminine vibe about the pitch of their horn?!

Weird one this, as it definitely sounds like people have different horns fitted!

Worst ones I've ever had have been on Hondas - sounded like a Noddy car.....

The lower spec Octavia's get a single tone horn, similar to that of smaller cars such as the Fabia. Lets call it a Postman Pat horn.

The higher up the range you go then the more likely you are to get a twin tone horn. My vRS and Scout both have twin tone horns, lets call them 'proper' horns!

Nothing and I mean NOTHING beats the horn on this scooter!

I find the best way is to lower the window and hurle abuse.

I find the Octy horn does the trick generally, but there are still plenty of idiots who just ignore it!

My old civic was fairly quiet although pressing the horn with the bumper off and the old man stood in front of it made it a little louder :)

Still miss the triple-trumpet air-horns I'd had on 4 of my Land Rovers (having migrated them onto each replacement)

They were certainly loud enough............... especially when coupled to that big steel bumper in the mirrors of whomever pulled out in front of me, thinking "oh it's just a slow old Landie plodding along"

Considering fitting a Klaxon to my VRS. It's ideal when the pavement cyclist swerves across in front. Also an ideal kid-shifter or cat lifter. :giggle:

Nothing and I mean NOTHING beats the horn on this scooter!

Brilliant!
