Hybrid Turbo vs K04-001?

I suspect this has been done to death, but gonna ask as my head hurts from soo much reading in forums across the net and I am more confused than when I started.... :wall: :( As most threads are at least 2 -3 years old, and things have come along way since then...

What would peoples preferences be between a hybrid, rs6 internals, K03s with K04 internals or a k04-001? :nerd: if you could give sound reasoning behind answer would be great, "As it's Pants" as someone put on another forum doesn't really back up their argument or help when reading it... Another started on about his own turbo making company, which again doesn't help in my quest either, oh and how figures were all wildy out for turbo's.

I like punch out of the blocks, but also staying power towards top of range. I do track days and dragging at Santa Pod. I know I am not gonna win class, as havent got 500-600 bhp, but it's an estate that would like to raise a few eyebrows with.

I have been given the reins again to kick on a bit more..... but not full reins for gtx3071r.

Also what is issue with these turbo's that are 350-400 new for k04-001...... has any one used one what do they think? - Read another thread, so scrub this. not really an option.

The k04-001 is some black magic voidoo hoodoo turbo from something ...... I assume lol

Maybe something in the states as APR are all over them

I beleve it was a borg warner one i had on my mk2 golf :D

And that was cool...... Even mapped like a half eaten furry potatoe but the numptys that would still make chips from said potatoe ;)

No doubt all good mate, possibly squeeze abit more out of a hybrid from what ive seen

Id look more at costs of each matey ;)

If you join relentless on facebook,guy sam bryant is currently in the process of fitting one of there manifolds with a garret gt28 fitment,hes fitting a garret gt28 clone,he says price will come in under 1000 quid,he is getting it mapped by badger 5,he is hoping to get it up and running soon,

been watching that used a v2 manni and tigged the 4 bolt flange on using the gt28

problem being to run that setup you need to consider all the other aspects for the conversion i.e rods mapping etc etc and it will be laggy

28rs is meant to be less laggy than the 30s, don't they do a new spec, thats less laggy again? Several cars on vortex and on here have run gts and ihis at around 330 without having to have rods changed

I would go hybrid to be honest, no concern over stressing the engine, and good power with the rs6 internals!

Have seen the gt's for peanuts, biggest issue is this is my daily driver, that my wife drives aswell, so need to stay semi sensible, plus it will cost me two kids( :sweat: )at that rate, as I know what I am like :think:.

Parts cost will just spiral and spiral, next thing will be staring at 10k :ph34r: . lol. Hence why looking at hybrid or k04 as then not much to change. I dont have a diff and struggled to get power down to start with the k03s-052 so a diff is a must, my driving style is a bit full on, Clive can vouch for that :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

Am toying with having the N75 mapped out and a EBC put in that would save the wife crying in the corner when she drives it.

there is a point you have to look at is what is right for that person #

i.e money, how and who drives it, is it a family wagon

Yes, its torque that kills these engines and not the bhp anyway. I would go hybrid as said, or ihi vf34 over the gt28 anyway, as they are still to laggy on a 1.8 from what i read.I wouldn't go CR either, there are others out there who will hybrid however. IMO to uprate your own engine is folly, cost of rods, and doing the work, plu rod bearings, plus cost of pistons (as not worth not doing them if the engine is stripped), plu headbolts, headgasket, cambelt kit, means you are in it for a good couple of k if you are paying someone to do. Might as well, take a chance on your own engine, a good 20v block can be bought for 300-400 ish (have sold a few now so i know) if it does blow, or for the cost of uprating your engine, go buy a bam (or the like) k04 setup engine, which has the forged bits already (inc crank iirc), the map to the desired 260ish with an oe setup well within tolerances. There was a 225 engine on here i think for 1k recently, makes more sense than stripping your own and refurbing, where do you stop after all, especially as the op doesnt have loads of money to spend (waste).

Meaning next year would be 4 insurances, 4 taxes, 4 mot's. I have a Corsa GSi in garage which is getting rolled out for a few shows next year too. Wife wouldnt go for 4 cars, shame as thinking of other things to do, been told not allowed to touch her car when i get it for her.
