Hybrid Turbo vs K04-001?

yea I am, the one I got off that lad was buggered. I posted pics of it up I think?

I promised id have that one off trev so am off up today to get it. hope to have it all sorted on the car but at the mo its not looking good as its getting close to xmas.

I am hoping to do it justice but never know whats round the corner. not touched the car since my last update due to work or weather.

You want the v3 manifold,they had issues with v2 as well,seemingly with v3 manifold,badger 5 v2 tip and a good map it will be good for 290bhp but some have got close to 300bhp.

it was on the car at the time and apparently a garage took it off and packed it. not bothered tho now as its all sorted.

hybrid sounds great but.... reliable?

unless you have a solution to deal with heat, track days are going to considerably shorten its life

the k04 was designed as an upgrade. designed being the important word.

hybrids can be reliable if done properly, you can use ko4 or rs6 internals anywway so hardly going overspec, as long as don't run silly power (tho they have seen safely 300) then i don't see the issue.

I am sorry was the mechanic blind, they are big cracks that wouldnt be missed.

300bhp from a k03s housing? cracks in the turbo housing? having to mill the housing in order to squeeze in larger internals? not too difficult an equation to solve if you ask me.

by the way, 300bhp on a standard block...

after seeing whats been done with a k03s today stick with that lol

and a k04 pushing 307 bhp

who knows if it was a standard block, i was just referring to the turbo setup.

several of our members have ihis/gt turbos on standard blocks without issues as have other vag enthusiasts.

Some turbos crack, some don't have removed several plus 100k mile turbos that haven't had cracks, seen others with less miles and that have cracks, lots of factors are involved in why they crack, you are right milling can weaken housings, but lots of hybrids run without issue.

I would suggest not running full boost, otherwise if concerned go for a k04 (is it 001 or 023) i cant remember, that has a slightly different housing, but fits the ko3 setup, with the rs6 wheel. (that should allow for more meat in the housing).

Going full k04 setup is a lot more expensive and involved unless you can get a good secondhand setup like thats been posted previously.

no k03s standard turbo

no not big boost just a very well refined map over a long time to get it perfectaswell as changes in mapping technique has meant nick has pushed the boudaries big time

its all about flow coupled with some wmi i think that has seen these results and the car has been running for 12 months so far ;-)

nick really is finding the true limits as he has been focusing on the 1.8t and putting tons of work in to push then to see what can be done

260 Bhp from stock k03s its a good result, however i believe that this was made on new turbo and power is going down with time, my vrs was remapped to 247 bhp on standard turbo (Neuspeed Turbo Intake Pipe,Boost Controller,forge 007p) now after 8 years i got only 200, thats why im sending in January turbo to AET and going for hybrid stage 1. This is mainly a strengthening upgrade to cope with remaps – stronger 360 thrust and total seal piston rings, and of curse small engine renovation, after that i will get again 250 bhp, i thing that this is safe power for stock engine, clutch and other parts , but if some1 wanna go for 300bhp and spend big bag of money should go for k04 :rock:

WMI is always a good idea, i would suggest it fitted to a hybrid setup too.

well dont agree and its not a brand new turbo and unless your power figure is backed upp on more than 1 dyno then i would say it hasnt happend lol and would need to have a few other little mods to make it work.

wouldnt say love him but yeslove his work and not only is he one of the best around but he also spends 1000's of hours perfecting his maps for us the end customer he doesnt do it for huge finacial gains he is a true legend and without tuners like him pushing the boundaries figures like this wouldnt happen its that simple

Yes bud, we have, and has been kinda ruled out as they are a bit hit and miss.

Bloke has got back to me, it's provisionally sold, but if bloke doesnt get back to him then i have next shout. it's still on car at the moment, he lives just down road from my outlaws, which is a bonus so i can go and look at it all if i get nod.

Sounds like he more of a breaker as the hybrid came off a car he was gonna track so going back to std turbo as he had spare ones.

Ok, will bare that in mind. still I can see it before buying it as he is literally about 15 min drive from outlaws, so if not happy can walk away.
