Connects 2 - how have you connected?

Featured Replies

So, finally have ordered myself a connects 2.. Finally.

I think I have a plan for fitting, but am interested to see what others have done.

My idea is to use one of the blanking plates (next to ASR button) and fit a 3.5mm jack into it, which is in turn attached to the connects hopefully hidden somewhere in the dash / behind stereo.

Then my phone sits in its cradle on the windscreen, and can easily plug into the dash with a flying lead.

So, Show us your install, in case you have a much better idea.

I tried various things:

I have the iPod version and tried moulding a dock into the cigarette tray and buying a dock and double sides sticky-ing it in the ashtray replacement cup holder.

Both worked sub-satisfactorily!

So now I have a cable coming out of the edge of one of the banking plates, too!

If you could get a female jack connection in one of the switches that would look good!

FYI I found the box was too big to sit behind the radio, so mine sits down the bottom behind the velcro'd trim!

I've simply pushed my connects cable down the back so it popped out in the tray underneath the air con buttons etc.

Drill a hole in the back of the cubby hole so iPod/phone etc can sit in there out of sight

I did this at first but it looked messy,

So i bought an extension jack lead off of ebay, drilled a hole in the back of the glovebox, the bit beside the light, and pulled the cable threw, im putting a charging point in aswell in there to keep everything neat!

Did the drill a hole in the back of the tray first, but finally fed the cable thru into my glovebox (there's a hole you can use near the light) and just leave my iPod classic on shuffle (75GB of songs so lasts a while :giggle: )

I have a usb lead from my hifi into the cubby hole below the hifi........I just drilled a 20mm???? hole and cut a slit through a 20mm??? blanking grommet and made a hole in the centr of the grommet...........the cable fits nice and snug in the centre of the blanking grommet which is a nice fit in the hole in the cubby....looks factory fit......

I managed to do what you suggest above and fit a 3.5mm jack into one of the blanking plates.

Then connected the phone; held in my pikey coat hanger mod; via a short lead. (not the best picture)

This is spot on for my need.. Do the blanking plates come out easily when the stereo is out?

Yes - push them with a finger from behind.

Like the idea of a coat hanger to hold the phone :)

How have you fitted the coat hanger to the vent??

Hopefully below is the link to the original thread for the coat hanger mod.

Following feedback it is now black and I have to say I prefer it to the bright silver. It is attached just by the ends being bent. I turn the vent so it is pointing up, slot the hooks in and then point the vent down, That holds it in place.

Just a helpful point to note to anyone fitting the 3.5mm jack extension into the blanking plate. On the back is a central rib of plastic running top to bottom. If you don't cut that out before you drill through it pushes the drill bit off centre and the hole will not be straight

Once the hole was cut I then slotted in a 3.5mm extension jack and glued it in place. Connects 2 then plugs into the inside end and the flying lead into the external end. (not a great picture)

How did you bend it so symmetrically/perfectly? Cracking job!

Sadly, I had already done 2 for my ipod nano. This then is my third attempt and it was still a case of trial and error. I started in the middle and then each bend I mirrored before carrying on to the next one ending at the two hooks.

Nice work looks good :)

Awesome job mate, in middle of doing something similar in my Octy :-)
