Warning : Your warranty has a 6 months/6k miles clause

Featured Replies

I put our March 12 Superb Greenline in for it 2nd service. Everything has been fine other than a rattle/squeek form the nearside of the dash. I asked them to investigate this. When I went to collect the car on the Friday they said that they could not find a rattle/squeek. I asked them if they had somebody from service who could accompany me on a test drive so that I could show them the rattle/squeek.

I was told that they would not have anybody available until the following Wednesday - remember this was on a Friday.

I told them to keep the car and ring me when the had managed to get a test drive done. I also called Skoda customer service to open a case their end. 'Amazingly' the dealer rang me 3 hours later to tell me that they discovered the noise. They also said that they had test driven other superbs from there used car stock and the same rattle was present in all 3 of those superbs too.

It turns out that the cost of labour/diagnosis has to be paid for by me IF they find that no parts are faulty and that the parts just require adjustment, lubrication or refitting.

I contacted Skoda and they confirmed that this is the case - and that after your car reaches 6k miles or 6 months old the clause in the warranty kicks in.

Has anybody else had this issue?

Items where the lifetime of the component is or can be influenced by driving style and external factors will only be considered under the terms of the warranty for a period of six months or 6,500 miles (whichever is soonest).

Beyond that limit, the defects must be classified as wear and tear and will not be covered by the Škoda warranty.

Components subject to wear and tear are as follows:

• Brake linings and disc pads

• Clutch release bearings

• Clutch pressure plates and centre plates

• Tyres

• Wiper blades (wiper rubbers have no warranty owing to their conditions of use)

• Seat and backrest covers

• Floor coverings

• Spark plugs

• Batteries for key fobs and alarms

• Light bulbs

• Shock absorbers

Mechanical adjustments after six months or 6,500 miles are also excluded from warranty cover such as:

• Adjustments to doors, flaps, boot lids, bonnets, sunroof

• Brake adjustment

• Clutch adjustment

• V belt adjustment

• Ignition adjustment

• Headlight adjustment

• Steering geometry adjustments

• Wheel balancing

Filters, gaskets, lubricants and sundry items are only accepted as part of a valid repair.

I'm in for a fun time then. Been back to the dealers 6 times in 6 months for a variety of issues, almost all of which are still present with additional issues appearing all the time. All of my issues bar the latest one (the Nav totally locking up and requiring a reboot on the (M25) have been reported but not fixed within the 6 months...

Thanks. Is this in the warranty booklet?

Thanks. Is this in the warranty booklet?

It is in the warranty booklet, this 6 month period is not new, it has been in force for many years with many manufacturers. Some dealers will however try and replace items covered by this limit but have to get the go ahead from the manufacturer.

Many owners think that the 3 year warranty covers everything but fair wear and tear, it is time that warranties are described better.

Well I had front shockers replaced well after 6500 miles on my last Octavia.
