Mirror Down Function - Retro fit?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Had our Octy for 3 weeks now and in the main I'm pretty damn please with it as a first family car. Couple of features I miss from out prevous Scirocco, although I don't have the cash to retrofit a MFSW!

One thing I was wondering about whether there were even any parts required was the Mirror down function - it comes on Octy's only with electric adjustable seats.

For those who may not have seen it before, it is an automatic adjustment of the left wing mirror when you select reverse so that you can see the kerb more easily, and then it returns to the normal position when you travel forward at 10mph or so.

Can anyone advise if this is something that can be programmed without additional parts, or if there the need for a controller? How much have you paid to have it done?

Cheers

Andrew

new controller required and a new mirror motor with memory function

The function is only available with electric seats as the seat memory ECU is used to store the seat and mirror positions. Without any kind of memory, the mirror will return and move to totally random places.

Has anyone retro fitted? The function is standard on rocco GTs - could parts be used from it?

You don't need memory seats to fit this feature

But as I said earlier

A door controller that supports memory and memory motor

Saw a post by a member who retrofitted it, some time ago.

If you think a MFSW is expensive, forget about it...I remember he said it was *very* expensive, because the mounting plate on the side was different. Also, he said they didn't fold up all that much, only a little bit.

Not worth pursuing if you're on a budget I'm afraid...

Are you not thinking of folding mirrors rather than the dip on selecting reverse?

That's what I thought. The folding DOWN mirror which shows the kerb is very handy. Dunno if you need a different stalk controller or not as this is how it's controlled: you select 'L' as if you were going to adjust the off-side mirror and when reverse is selected it slowly moves down.

I've not been in the guts of a new car - is there loom in there to support these parts or not? If I got a switch and a lieft hand wing mirror out of a rocco, could I plug it in a go?

I'm pretty sure you need to upgrade to folding mirrors to get dipping ones....

EDIT to quote Eddie-NL in another thread...(hope you don't mind ;) )

options for memory window Door controller (also supports Electric folding, Auto Dimming) Price £220

1T0 959 702 N Z0Z

1T0 959 702 S Z0A

Mirror motor

3D0 959 578 C price £75

very expensive, best to look for them second hand. Will also require extra wires to be added as the current miror motor uses 3 wires and the memory version uses 7 wires

So there. Get out 'yer chequebook! :D

My L&K has dipping but not folding mirrors. Are you saying I should be able to activate folding too? Or is that only FL?

As does mine. Any pre FL with memory seats has the dipping mirror. Folding mirrors were not available on pre FL AFAIK.

Yup, spoke to Skoda CZ and they said that FOLDING mirrors were never made on the pre-fl and they didn't think they'd be retro-fittable with changing a LOT of things at expense, and even then it would be a guess as to whether they'd work. I don't think they fold THAT much anyway, so my initial disappoitment only lasted very briefly.
