Cylinder head skim

Featured Replies

Hi,

Reading the topics on here gave me info and the confidence to start fixing this, this weekend.

Upon dismantling it all, I found there to be a small crack around cylinder 1.

Can anyone recommend anywhere in Morley, Leeds area to carry out a head skim?

It's for a mpi head.

Thanks in advance.

Neil

A crack may require a specialist repair, coupled with a skim and it starts to cost. Some time ago Skoda reduced the price on MPi heads to around the £250 mark, it may be an idea to price one up.

Thanks for the fast response!

I'll enquire at Skoda and see what they quote.

Anyone else got any recommendations of cylinder head specialists?

Neil.

We get ours done at work for £20 per head. Not much help im sure but it shouldnt cost much for a skim.

A skim is usually anywhere between £30-50. No idea what they can do about the crack, if anything!

Cheers fordfan, ended up getting a new head from TPS thanks to you (thought they'd be much more than that!). Managed to get an extra 10% discount off too (£235inc).

So, new head, valves reseated, new head set and head bolts, new coolant, oil and oil filter and a few hours freezing my bits off on Thursday - its back up and running!

Well chuffed with myself! All done for about £400 (parts only-not including my time)

Only paid £100 for the car from a neighbour that was emigrating, so it has been well worth doing!

Thanks again!
