Cleaning the black plastic bits

Featured Replies

Anyone got any recommendations for cleaning the exterior plastic of the Yeti?

If you mean the shiny black bits, mine got quite scratched so I used silvo in small circular motion works a treat for removing the scratches, if you mean the rear bumper and the sills I have used Slick Mist by Lucas oil and I have also used auto glym spray and wipe off wax type stuff.

I use aerospace 303 for mine

External plastic parts, particularly rear bumper - I use the tyre "black" Meguiers - especially in winter - supposed to be for tyres it is a clear thickish liquid that also seems to give a waterproof coating

(I suppose other similar tyre "black" products will do the same)

Definitely looking for a permanent option, it's just a while since I've had a car with "bare" plastic bumpers! (I believe the last time I had to give bumpers any thought was when I was the proud owner of an H reg Rover 214 SLi!)

Thanks for the help chaps

For rear bumpers, mudflaps etc. - Simoniz 'Back to Black' or Smooth (not crunchy) Peanut Butter.

Is there something wrong with me that on reading the thread title and opening post I instantly thought "bucket of water and a sponge"?

Not at all, and all I use is the local pressure washer!

But some owners are perhaps more "house proud" than me! :giggle:

Fortunately many owners are not satisfied by just a garage pressure washer Graham

BobbyG79 - I notice you have an Elegance model like me.

If you use Simoniz leather wipes (or similar) to clean/condition your leather seats then you can use the 'used' wipe to bring a bit of sparkle to the black bumpers etc. Just wipe over the bumpers once you have wiped the seats and it works a treat.

Most products I've used last for a week at most then pick up the muck. Most are oily and run in the rain leaving streaks. Now I just give it a thorough clean as too much effort for any effect that won't last.

My Honda not being an 'orange peel' effect is easy to keep presentable so it can be done.
