DMF - Any probs with '09 1.9 Tdi 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi all - new to your forum - advice needed rapidly . . .

I've been looking for a 4x4 1.9 Tdi for some time now, and have today looked at such a car - an '09 with 25k.

It's 3 1/2 years old and is on variable servicing - it's had two.

I like the 1.9 as I had a Fabia for 7 yrs / 85k - it was brilliant.

I do alot of research before buying and have read on Honest John regarding DMF failure on the 1.9 Tdi at 40k.

The question is then - do the 4x4's suffer the same fate ? I ask as the car has the six speed 'box . . . . .

I have read the thread with interest, but there is no mention of problem vehicle type.

Can anyone help please ?

PS The car drove very well . . . .

The 6 speed box makes it easier to load the DMF.

I never knew it was possible to get the 1.9 TDi with a six speed box, I thought they were 5 speed manual or DSG only?

To look for wear on a test drive try to accelerate in too high a gear, a worn DMF will result in a judder.

SMF conversions for the 1.9 TDi are common now so prices are dropping.

Is it definitely a 1.9 and not a 2.0?

I know there is 6 speed box on the Fabia Vrs (1.9tdi 130bhp), but I wasn't aware of it being available on the 1.9Tdi on the Octavia......come to think of it, did they ever do the scout with a 1.9Tdi?

I'm not sure they did.

I think all the 4x4 are 6spd

All Octavia 1.9's are 5-speed. No 6 speed manual version of the regular Octavia exists.

All Octavia 4x4 are 6-speed, and they were available with the 1.9 TDI. So if you want a 6 speed manual 1.9, you are obliged to get the 4x4 version.

All Scouts are 6-speed.

Yes, but are any of the 4x4's 1.9Tdi's?

Yes ofcourse, you could get a 4x4 1.9TDI, in 6 speed manual.

Or, to put it this way, if you want a 6 speed manual in a 1.9, you are obliged to get the 4x4 version :)

. . . . Just to confirm chaps, the car is a standard 4x4, not a Scout.

It has the 1.9 Tdi (I wanted this one as it has no DPF) and yes it does have the six speed gearbox (not including reverse . . !)

So, back to the original question, DMF problems - yes or no . . . . . . ?

Thanks for the replies

So, back to the original question, DMF problems - yes or no . . . . . . ?

Yes.

To expand this post more, is there a single clutch system available for the 4x4, and what other problems do you need to look for??/

Yes DMF's and the AC compressors are rubbish too, fail early, and cost a fortune to replace.

My understanding is that unlike the 2WD 1.9 Tdi there is no SMF conversion for the 4x4. This may have changed or may change in the future if there is sufficient demand.

You may well have very specific reasons for needing a 4x4 but lack of a SMF conversion would be enough to convince me to steer clear.
