BLT Hesitation/Stutter fix - Why did I wait so long

Featured Replies

I have just this weekend sorted the gasket on my EGR valve (http://www.fabia-vrs.com/technical-info/blt-engine-hesitation-fix/) after the problem of the hesitation getting worse and worse.

I cleaned up the ASV and the EGR valve which were fully caked in rubbish and then replaced the gasket with the one shown in the link above.

This has absolutely transformed the car at low speed going through the gears, I don't have to try and slip the clutch or mess around I can just drive it.

I fitted the gasket as standard without drilling it out and the engine light hasn't come on at all.

Oh it will! It's an MOT advisory now too.

Is it 'large hole' as standard and the fix is with the smaller hole gasket? When I cleaned my EGR last week I noticed the gasket and even measured it but it wasn't 9mm or 25mm. Is drilling out the 9mm a compromise of sorts to cure eml's?

Yeah, drilling out the 9mm gasket is ment to stop the eml light coming on.

What does the 9mm version have to be opened up to to stop the EML then?

Im sure it will be different for each car depending on mileage etc...

I havnt done the modification myself so cant say. Do a search on google and see also. 15mm seems to ring a bell?

Follow the link at the top of this topic for a full explanation!

If you have the eml coming on, would removing the gasket completely fix it if that was the cause?

I'm pretty sure that removing the gasket completely would make the hesitation/stutter worse you'd be better off sticking with the original fitment.

I now before I had mine mapped out low revs was awful for hesitation

It needs the gasket to seal. It'd leak otherwise, potentially hot exhaust gas over bits that shouldn't be ...that hot.

ISTR from conversations and posts on this site...

25mm = standard gasket.

9mm = replacement that fixes the stutter but won't meet Euro 4 emmisions, EML also likely unless remapped/tweaked to suite.

14mm = what Skoda drill it/supply it as if you complained enough about it. Reported to still stutter by some.

11, 12mm = compromise to avoid EML whilst fixing the stutter better than the 14mm.

What size drill you got? :)

Measured it and it's 13mm, I was hoping that it was causing the eml to come on. Took it off this morning to see if it made any difference, obviously didn't want to drill it out to 25mm. Car drove perfectly but the eml still came on after about 5 minutes. It's off to the garage on Thursday so they can see what the light is for, tried my cheapo code reader but it's showing no number only n/a.

I used the 9mm gasket. The EML didn't come on, but now it has after 25k remapped miles.

I'd say leave at 9mm unless you get the EML light, then drill to 11, 12, 13mm or so.

Still no engine warning light and nearly 400 miles done...
