Octy Multi Cd Changer And Cd-r's

Featured Replies

Anyone have a problem playing CD-R's on the Symphony multi CD changer? Mine starts to play the CD's O.K. and as it works it's way through the CD, it starts to jump.:( Doesn't matter what slot the CD is in and it seems to play "real" CD's no problem. If it is a recognition problem, I'd be amazed - I have never had a problem with any player in the past and they play no problem in a crap Goodmans unit on a mates car!

Any help appreciated.

Num

I burn a lot of CD's for the car, before I insert them I give them a wash with a weak solution of washing up liquid, seems to work.

Does that remove the swarf? :D

Wouldn't you use Swarfega for that....:)

mine plays cdrs but its still a ****e system

Mine played CD-R's but not CD-RWs. Cheap aftermarket stuff usually plays both, as they nab the electronics from CD-ROM drives (probably... ;) )

Yep, same problem here.

Solution, play a 'legit' disk for a while then back to cdr.

Found also when using Nero to burn my disks extending the track pause to 3 secs can help (default buffer is 2).

Hmmmm.... Cheers SilveRS -

Do you find it plays the first few tracks on a CD-R OK, then it begins it's tricks on later tracks?:(

Num

I found it did that with a CD-RW - is it possible that your CDRs aren't "closed" properly?

Out of interest: Could this result in some in-car players not being able to play the recent raft of (evil) "does not play on PCs" copy-protected CDs?

I'd guess so - I'm not sure quite what differentiation is used to make the copy protection work though. It's not like there's no way round it though... :D

Nah - they are all closed Rob - used them in all sorts of other players without a problem, including a 17YO Technics CD Player and a 1YO

Whinge at your dealer? :)

Booked in for Sat Morning! And to have the Door Open Light activated/fixed and get the low speed "grawnching" sound from the front end sorted - even though this is "normal" road noise, I've previously been told by them!!! Yeah, right! . . . :D

Num

Grawnching? :D

Sorry - technical term.... :p

Mine has problems with CDRW's it plays them ok for the first time then it starts to jump about then comes up with error message saying 'Surface'

Only way I sorted this out was to reburn on CDR then it seems ok

I find CD-Rs don't last long in my player - It could be because they're about 15p each from Macro...? BTW - just bought "Ibiza - History of Hard Dance" triple CD from Woolies! I feel some NTS NTS NTS NTS coming on.... :speaker:

Me too... LOL

No probs (so far) with CD-Rs in the changer. I never put originals in the car. I buy a CD (I'm old fashioned like that), then I copy it immediately for car use.

Mark

I hope you don't try and take back the original claiming you were also bought it as a present by somebody else... At least not too often?

Never.

Like I said, I'm an old fashioned sort of guy. If it's worth listening to, it's worth buying. And I like to have something "tangible". It's nice to have a collection of legit stuff.

Back in my youth when I was DJing, I spent a lot of time in my local record shop just hanging around. They told me of one punter who would buy albums (we're going back to vinyl "records" here) take 'em home and bring them back later in the day *seriously* warped. They could only guess that she was taping them then putting them in the oven (!) to get them into a condition worthy of returning them for refund!!

I should have grown out of dance music about a decade ago, but I just can't help myself! nts nts nts indeed...

Regards,

Mark

Most of my dance music comes from mates TBH. The one I bought yesterday was the first CD I've actually physically paid for (if you don't count buying beer for aforementioned mates) for about a year, I reckon. Why have a 40 speed burner and not use it?

BTW - my burner is a sore-point at the moment. My bloody sis recently copied about 30 CDs for herself without asking me, used up my ENTIRE stock of blanks and left me with nowt! Now she claims she can;t afford to buy me new ones because she's on hols from uni and unemployed! again!

Repossess some of her stuff and sell it to make up the cost. You're allowed to do that, y'know... :D

Rob.

If you can't afford it, you do without.

When I were a lad....

etc.

:)

Mark

Trouble is, most bands are disposable these days, as is there music, so I see no good reason to pay for it on a media which will last for ages... :)

If it's good, however, it will get bought (hence I didn't do away with a CD player in the car altogether).

Rob.
