Xenons/ hids retro fits

Featured Replies

I've searched through loads of threads on this and come away confused :o

I have a 60 plate vrs estate (has led running lights) with candles (halogens) for headlights I live in the northwest and I'd like much brighter headlights can someone help me get them fitted coded whatever else needs doing so they work without causing any problems preferably someone who has done this to their own car with no problems I don't mind traveling a bit and will compensate your time and expertise with a drink, either tell me exactly what to buy and from where or you buy them and I'll reemeburse you the cost etc.

Had I known how much I'd miss xenons I'd have never bought a car without them but short of changing the car I'm stuck with them for a little while hence I'd like to upgrade. Any help is much appreciated either pm or post here.

Vectra has got non CanBus and coding working, so until anybody else with a 2012 VRS says anything different, that is the way to go.

I'm just waiting for someone who has tried a CanBus version before I pull the trigger. It could be plug and play, it could feck everything up, who knows.

Same ebay dealer mine came from, slightly dearer now. two years on. Hauptman on here did the coding (non shuttered HID) worked out the box on a MY06.

I do sometimes get bulb error if I leave the lights on at shut down, But a restart usually sorts that.

Mine are non-CANbus BTW.

For my usage, totally brilliant, and worth every penny - despite what the trolls say.

Right so you guys are saying buy noncanbus ones and get it coded?

Anyone nearish me knows what they're doing and can code mine?

Just seen this, that would be the ideal for me canbus plug them in and away you go.

I think that discussion was about the '12-on Facelift. Which is different to the previous FL and different again to the preFL models like mine and yours(?) which don't need the "canbus friendly", just a quick recode.

Quotes because there have been rumours of difficulties and problems.

Hope this helps.

I have the ones you originally quoted in 4300k, and non CANbus from Londoncolour, on Ebay. They are micro ballast and everything fits inside the "box" on the back of the headlamp unit, nothing outside.

CANbus ones can cause problems one pre FL cars, apparently.

Mine produce a very white light, it seems slightly blue in comparison to halogens at first. The 5000k and above produce a progressively bluer light which, as we humans are ultra violet blind, means the effect is actually less available light.

I only watched the coding, but Hauptman who did it, only took a couple of minutes. During which he cleared a couple of fault codes and was explaining what he was looking at. There is only a single change to make.

Next day I had the headlamp alighment checked - it was ok. I have h/l washers but no self leveling. As the leveling is only to compensate for static load, and is not an active system, I always have a check, and make any compensation with the cabin adjuster.

So if you would like increased length and width -go for it.

I'm going to go down the hid route it's open to argument over whether they're legal or not and whether you buy canbus friendly or not. If Andyvee is willing to help I'm going non canbus friendly and get him to code my car. This seems the best option to me at the moment after plenty of research

Could do next weekend sometime?

drop me a pm

^ Plug, Yes but Play, NO.

You have to code to suit and if you have a new model the code with standard lights. Then do not for any reason turn on your lights until the hids are fully fitted.

Cheers mate I'd figured about the coding its more the connections that they just plug into existing sockets rather than joints etc.

^^ Yes, Direct plug to original connections ;)
