Which is Quicker

Featured Replies

Weird how heavy the Fabia is suppose to be.

Also found:

- 1205 kg for 5dr Ibiza FR PD130

- 1180kg for 3dr Ibiza so not that much different with less doors

Well, bearing in mind the power differences on the later BLT engined Fabia vRS in relation to power (I think every car was different - look at mine for example!) I would say the Fabia all day long!

What I don't get, is why on the site gac quotes, is the PD150 ~35kg heavier? I thought they were the same except a larger turbo? Meh, one of life's mysteries maybe?

Edit - heavier than the PD130 Golf

Different wheels? More gadgets (CD changer as standard)? The PD150s were all Anniversaries I believe, and had a different interior? I dunno, 35kg is a lot of weight to make up, but I've never checked weights of any of the parts (i.e. the PD150 FMIC vs the PD130 SMIC). I think those figures are probably more accurate i.e. I find it easier to explain the difference of 35kg with an FMIC and better spec than I do for the 50kg difference between two "identical" PD130 engines.

Don't Skoda measure their kerb weights with a full tank of fuel and a driver?

Mine wasn't an anniversary but was a PD150.

Valid point about the CD changer etc. I guess also the heated seats, headlight washers and 17 over 16inch wheels would add up. Mystery solved!

Thankfully this is a serious thread. Upon reading the title I thought it might have been another "My Fabia is faster than the speed of light" thread.

Interesting facts and figures there, I knew the Fab was a heavy little thing, I would've thought a Golf would be a tad heavier though.

My fabia is quicker than YOUR fabia ;) lol

Now that I would like to see on a track, I'm fairly sure it's not ;)

edit - actually, it might be. I'm getting Clarkey666 mixed up with DAZZA66 and therefore thinking of the wrong car :D

There's always one :-)

Only messing.. Mine is bog standard.

I think it's all down to the driver :) whichever is driven by the faster drier will win :)

... and a lower drag coefficient. Hehe!

How'd you work that one out? Just because a vrs looks like a brick may not act like a brick in the aero tunnels :giggle: .

I really would like to read about the aero efficiencies on a normal car and how much it effects mpg/performance. I heard that the front end (and sump guard) contributes up to 30% of the aero efficiencies.

Both have stage 3 Jabba cars :)

They (under trays) do make a huge difference, kinda creates a flat floor to an extent.

Ive gained 3mpg after putting a complete undertray back on my car

Why is it important? Plus i would look what handles better than faster, straight line pull i doubt you would notice any difference from a driving experience but in the twists what would make you smile more?

Before my fab vrs now I owned a pd130 golf 03 plate and my fab now feels so much more quicker... And I felt I had to push my golf!!! I'd have my money on a pd130 fabia!! And would defiantly put it to the test!! Any golfs fancy a test ????

In a similar vein, my last car was a Audi A3 2.0tdi Sport and I swear my little Fabia would run rings around it.....

While my Fabia wasn't the last word in cornering ability, the Gollf was MUCH worse than the Fabia.

My Polo makes me smile the most of any car I've owned, unless the LSD was getting a workout in the RX-8. . .

Im going to bump this one - I would love someone with a golf to challenge you - Get our answers.

By looking up the drag coefficient of my car vs a vRS.

vRS has a coefficient of 0.33 and a Seat Cordoba is 0.30. That means it's about a million MPH faster than a Fabia :giggle:

Oh and a Bugatti Veyron has a coefficient of 0.36 with the spoiler down and 0.41 with the spoiler up.

So what about if the golf was running dry sump, no washer fluid AND only a tiny amount of fuel in the tank would the weight saved bring it back in to contention?

who is to say they weight it with this? we need a standard golf vs vrs. Im happy to race mine standard

Both cars are the same weight within a few kilos, the amount of extras varies the weight of both cars so no 2 Golfs or 2 Fabias are going to be the same. You'll have take it that their is no difference in speed. I have had both of these cars in the past and I would always prefer the fabia, it was a black one and of course they always have the edge.
