Dipped light defective?

Featured Replies

I fitted a set of new lights on my vRS today, when I had them all connected up etc, I tested to make sure all was working, the light error appeared on the dash, with the front left and right dipped beam defective message on the maxidot.

The dipped headlights were lit, but at only about 50% of there proper output, the headlight's weren't working at all,

Does anybody have any idea what the problem is?

I currently have HID's fitted in my OEM lights which work perfectly, but even when I tried the HIDS in the new lights they wouldn't work! I also tried normal H7 bulb's in them aswell but still no joy!! baffled....

When you say 'new lights' do you mean you have replaced the actual headlight clusters themselves?

If neither your HID kit or standard halogen bulbs work in them then the new clusters are faulty?

Where did you buy them from?

Doesn't a HID kit connect directly to the cars headlight wiring loom/connectors? I therefore don't see how the clusters could affect them, unless the bulbs or ballast is earthed through the headlight cluster somehow?

Yeah, they are complete new headlight unit's, there Depo black headlights,

The lights are working, but the output is a lot less than what it should be, they are obviously drawing too little power and therefore giving a dash warning light,

does it happen also with high beam.

Unplug the high beam to test.

I'll try the high beam later to see,

Maybe there is a partial short inside one or both of the lights somewhere?
