Who said fabia's are a lot slower than CTR's?

Featured Replies

There seems to be some misconceptions and also unrealistic expectations when comparing diesels to petrol's.

There seems to be a bit of performance gauge or comparison on diesel based cars vs petrols on the internet which are always compared with vtec's obviously Honda's!, with X is quicker than a civic type R etc and the typically 'no torque' comments.

My friend has a Honda civic ek9 (1.6) lightly modified with bolt on's 196BHP 138lb ft torque and weighs around 1090KG, my fabia is circa 1300KG, 184BHP 320 lb ft both figures from the same dyno.

I've always wondering how some of the diesels would compare in a "straight line", for fun (in a dream i had) we compared acceleration from 20 leptons upto just over 90 leptons a couple of times. At first my mate wasnt in the vtec zone as i pulled away easier, I told to him to have it in the right gear in vtec and it was lot closer. Just shows you you've got to be on the boil and in the right zone with these vtec engines.

However when he was going for it i would stay with him from 20 all the way to 90 then he would start pulling away slowly there were 3 attempts at this, not bad for a car worth half the ek9, about 9 insurance groups lower and lower tax. I must admit I was quite surprised by the result as I'd expect the ek9 would have pulled away from say 50 instead. I have modified my fabia with coilovers, EGR delete, Louvre's in wheel arch for FMIC, bigger intake pipe and remap.

IMO the ek9 handles better, looks better and sounds better. I think folk thought of diesel as a lesser fuel than petrol but stored energy wise its not, ATEOD I'd rather have the Ek9 but the MPG is such a bonus 47MPG when booting it.I am over the moon with the fabia i really am, I'd of expected the CTR to be much quicker? does anyone else have any experiences with CTR's etc?

He wasn't trying/can't drive a VTEC properly (just going from what you're saying...)

Edit: a 1.6 isn't a Type-R...

On a private road I hope

A 1.6 ek9 is a type R mate. Initially he wasn't in vtec when going for it. And he was going for it after i told him how to drive it, namely to keep it in low gear around 6000rpm. Most people can't drive vtec's IMO.

All I'm saying is I am surprised by the result It's been done to death on here i know, as i expected from what everyone said on here you would get left easily by one.

Oh, that shape Civic...

When everyone says that a CTR is quicker than a Fabia they are referring to the EP3 or newer versions. What you've done is change the win conditions.

The EK9 is an old car, it will be slower (in a straight line), especially when driven by someone who has no clue how to drive one.

And he was going for it after i told him how to drive it,

Bit hard that Babs, he told him how to drive it

:notme:

I had the same experience with an ep3 and fn2. Not fast cars, just make a lot of noise. But sure are fun to drive

Ha love the ibtl picture, ok babs fair enough.

Oh dear .....again ..really ...seriously.

Do you want me to lock it now before it really gets messy ??

Maybe just a separate forum for Fabia vRS vs .......

Oh and no that wasn't a serious post

Louvers in arch for fmic? Do you meen the pikey arch mod for the smic?

Also you are pushing your turbo and clutch on those figures imo.

so the civic has a bit more power and is a bit quicker in a straight line? I am ******* surprised

Another pointless thread, no offence intended.

Try a tuned DC5 vs a remapped VRS. Any further mods and the DC5's allowed a supercharger if he wants it.

One thing I have found with Petrol cars vs diesels (ownership, not racing ...) is petrols manage to ramp up the revs far quicker in lower gears. A combination of lack of mass of rotating and sliding bits and greater flexibility over when ignition starts.

Keep it going a bit yet Dave, we're having fun

I've also noticed that my youngest son's 21 speed push bike is quicker than my other son's Mountain Bike.

Could it be the number of gears or the fact my eldest son is a lazy fat ****?

lol your friend cant drive his car or the car is poorly. either ek9 or ep3 is faster than a remapped fabia.

i made the switch from a remapped fabia vrs to a corolla t sport 1.8 n/a 190bhp (virtually same as ep3 civic) and the difference is night and day

my car is faster than all your cars from 20 lichtensteins to 90 neutonmeters - i know it for a fact so i dont need to prove it! I shall never race any of you so we will just have to take it as read.

Also faster than a fast thing going really fast so there

Ek9 are great cars I owned one for a few years before I got my vrs . IMO ek9 would would win 0-60 agains a stage 1 vrs but from a rolling start around 20mph the vrs would be in front all the way .

In a previous life I have owned a Subaru Impreza Turbo, they can shift. But are no match for a Dodge Viper Offical Pace Car. I did not even tell the Driver how to drive it just went into Warp Speed.

Being fast in corners > fast on straights. More fun too. IMO.

Here, I suspect the Civic might have small edge. ;)

196BHP ek9 would pull away from a 184bhp fabia noticeably every time if driven right. I Drag raced (private airstrip)a friends ek9 and his was rolling roaded at 181bhp and my fabia was 183 and he pulled away with ease every time.
