Terrible condensation - dripping on all inside. Pollen Filter?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

doors were fixed lastyear. All carpets are dry, I even turn the airflow to the "feet" position and wind it to Zero..

Its getting so bad, I think the car is unsafe to drive for my wife and also I was hoping to use the car for when we also have a baby. We use a cloth etc, but this just antagonises the moisture if anything and it takes longer to clear..

So...I am going to change the pollen filter. Anyone here done this?

Pollen filter is really easy to change, under glovebox in passenger footwell, 2 slide clips, and lift the flap up and pull the old pollen filter out, slide new one in and close flap, hey presto job done!

Mine seemed to be misting up a bit lately, I changed the pollen filter yesterday took five mins tops, I bought mine from eurocarparts £8 delivered.

Hopefully it will sort it, you should of seen the state of the filter I removed no leaves but full of crud and was rather black looking instead of the pearly White one that went in. So was probaly holding moisture.

Mines being a right pain in the arse recently too! Going to try some of those moisture packs see hope they fair.

Mines pretty annoying lately too, I've goo some of those packs in from tescos, hard to tell of they help or not as it still does it occasionally, however the pack do turn to liquid so they are removing something. I've always thought that the blowing fans might be the case, I've seen times were the car is fine then I turn the fans on and then it steams up. **** annoying. Makes me wanna change the car at time tbh

Check all the cabin air intakes for leaks or moisture. Pop your Aircon on for dry air even in the hot setting.

The amount of people you see driving around with steamed up glass is amazing.

Get a mini dehumidifier, mine improved massively after sticking one in the seat pocket.

red cupra boy,

there are two pollen filter types i think you will find,

one is white just a straight forward filter and the other is a greyish mottled colour which has activated carbon in it for better filtration

Small cars in cold weather are a pain for condensation although my Fabia is nowhere near as bad as some. It's a good idea to check that the air recirculation is actually off, never had this stick on my Fabia but it's not a VRS. The easiest way to check the air is coming in from the outside is to close all the windows turn the blower on and open face level vents and get someone to squirt a small amount of air freshener into the scuttle area by the wiper spindles. If working you should smell it immediately.

You probability know this already but your car has a built in dehumidifier- the air con. On my car I sent the heater to normal temperature and switch the air con on, this is very effective in drying the air in the car. My wifes car climate control does this automatically so can only assume this is not the case with the VRS

Strangely it's my air con that seems to cause the moisture?

I tried the air con this morning to clear the moisture but it didn't work. I think I'm going to stick it in the barn for a night and stick a dehumidifier in it or something, give it a clean base to work off as I suppose once its in then its in since it doesn't get warm enough to get rid of it now!

Mini dehumidifier? Got a link to one of those?

Yes, Aircon for me too, clears the front screen in about 3 - 5 minutes.

DB.

I use aircon to clear my screens quickly, don't put the re-circulation on it, this will cause more condensation issues, just turn it on with the heat on as normal

Remember that the aircon does not engage below 3c, so no playing with the aircon controls will get that to engage below that temperature even though the light will come on.

This looks like quite a small dehumidifier, I wonder if it works. Sounds like a good idea.

Looking at the spec, I'd say that would be very, very minimal in effectiveness at attempting to dry a car in winter, and at 4A consumption, a great way of flattening a battery if left on 12V power when the car's parked up,

Ask yourself why it's being sold 2nd hand?

The OP needs to check that the underside of the sound insulation beneath the carpets, not the topside of the carpet, is dry in all areas of the car. Certainly in the rear doors region, the leakage route is to the underneath of all the fabrics, so it's easy for carpets to appear dry, but there's wet lower down under them. Not sure about the front of the cabin, but I suspect the same applies.

By removing the rear seat cushions, it's fairly easy to get a hand under all the fabrics of the rear footwells to check for wetness with minimal disturbance of the carpets.

IMHO there's no way a mucky pollen filter could be responsible, unless there's some way that it is continually being re-wetted, which shouldn't happen unless there are blocked drains in the scuttle area.

Good luck with it.

It's the front underfelt that's the problem since it's topped with an impervious rubber layer - had to take mine out to dry it off - and that means taking the seats out...
