Samsung NX1000, thoughts please

Featured Replies

Hi guys, looking at getting into a spot of photography, i was originally wanting to get myself a dslr, canon or nikon, low end around £400 to start with but i see the samsung range comes with a free Galaxy tab 7, i would like you views on this camera for general use, some experimental shot, zoom capability and portability.

Here is the camera in question

There's not enough info out there as to how good the image quality is, so can't really advise you. Depends how much that matters to you I suppose. If you buy that for £400 and get a free tablet, you could always sell it on and use the proceeds to get a decent one if it's rubbish haha! Personally I wouldn't buy a camera from a company with a finger in so many pies. I like to rely on a company whose efforts go 110% into producing a decent camera. That's just me though :)

Thats what i was worried about, i mean come on Samsung even make fridges!

But i do like the size/portability of it. Never mind the free tablet

Go and try one, thats the best way for you to know. Probably better going to a proper shop like Jessops where the staff might actually now something about it (other than what's on the box) and you can actually hold it and use it while it's not attached to an alarm system!

At the end of the day it will give you a photo, so if that's all you need it will probably be fine!

Some samples in the flickr group, though it only has 13 members lol. Also you wont know what lens they have used unless they state it.....

That Galaxy tab 2 is not free either, it is another £200, which is the same as you can buy a 16GB one from somewhere else. Good tablet that works as a phone too.

Beg to differ, PC World, Samsung NX1000 - £399.99 - £50 cashback from Samsung and a Galaxy Tab 7", Just bought my wife one for Christmas.

Ah, I followed the Amazon link. Looking at PC world, that would be a good deal and make an ideal car camera for me if only they had an EVF available for it.

The deal is pretty good even if you sell the tablet on. Bear in mind that's only a one lens kit and you're looking at another £150 to get the 50-200mm lens for it. 20-50 isn't a particularly versatile range .

Yeah agree on the lense, but we have two canon 350d's in underwater housing, a tz7 and tz10, and a cannon 40d with plenty of lense's for all occasions, lol.

The NX is a play thing for the wife as it links to the tab, and will upload to our server at home.

Well same here, I have more cameras than I can shake a stick at, but I bought a nikon 1 for when I don't want to be bogged down with lots of cameras, so I need as much lens variation as possible on that camera too, otherwise it negates it's purpose.

My dad has bought the NX1000, he is getting quiet old and was starting to struggle lugging his Canon DSLR and lenses round everywhere. He is really pleased with the Samsung, and it has a few neat tricks up its sleeve. He got the cashback offer and also the free Galaxy TAB offer as well, and yesterday purchased the 50-200 lens in currys as they have knocked £30 off of the lens price.

I have had a play, and it seems quiet comprehensive and the picture results at 20MP+ seem ok even when you zoom into a taken picture. There have been a number of firmware updates, so the first thing I did was upgrade his from V1.01 to V1.11 which fixed a number of minor issues he was having.

Full 1080P video recording with stereo sound is very good, but not something he will use though.
