monte carlo brake travel?

Featured Replies

ok so this might be a weird one...

basically i took delivery of my new monte carlo a month (1000) miles ago and i absolutely love it, cracking little motor with a great engine!

the only thing i've found is the travel on the brake pedal... when i first got it they were so sharp i had to be careful not to send myself through the windscreen every time i stopped! however, after a few hundred miles ive found i have to press the brake pedal an inch or so before anything really happens... i find this weird for a brand new car as i tested my mates '05 octy and his brakes kick in straight away...

was just hoping some people could tell me what their monte carlo brakes are like... disks at the front and drums at the back.

cheers

andy

Probably the brake pads have now set in and taken shape so it is understandable to have just a bit more pedal travel.

If not then check whether you got a brake fluid issue but i wouldn't think so.

under warranty, take it back to the dealers :)

have rung the dealers and have booked it i for this afternoon
:)
according to the t&cs brake pads and disks are excluded from the warranty as they are wearable parts or somthing like that

theyre not bad, they are just not as sharp as they were... better safe than sorry.

cheers guys

It could be you also gotten used to the braking potential. I had this when I first got my Monte, and was forever almost smashing my head on the steering wheel.

When I drove a friends Astra (same model I had prior to the Monte), I nearly crapped myself as I wasn't pressing the pedal hard enough.

As for the pads and disks not covered by the warranty if they defective then it is quite possible that you can get them to replace them depending on the fault.

yeah that did spring to mind becuase i drove my old 106 after owning the monte for a couple of weeks and almost rear ended some old man :p :S

will get it checked out anyway, a month old car shouldnt fail anyway haha

Mine today - braking from 60mph. Usual pressure. ran out of space to stop (making a right turn over a dual carriageway to a side road). I pushed harder...

Bag ended up in footwell, I nearly ended up snogging the screen and whatever I have in the boot (nothing too heavy), tried to get to the back seat!

I think I got complacent with the brakes, as they're pretty good for tiny discs and drum on rear.

Belive there has been one or two Fabia insadances of the brake servo pipe not being clipped in to the servo itself correctly from factory :wonder:
