Octavia II parking sensors

Featured Replies

We went to Longleat over the weekend and now have three nice round holes in the rear bumper where they should be.

What other cars share the same parking sensors? I don't want to pay what VAG ask for new ones but there most be loads sitting in breaker's yards.

The monkeys pinched your sensors?

The monkeys pinched your sensors?

Three of them, yes.

LoL , Sorry to laugh but didn't the massive warning signs and the huge gates littered with all the items (Number plates, wheel trims & ariels etc) torn from peoples cars put you off or was seeing a monkey up close worth the humiliation? For anyone else thinking of going there is a right turn directly in front of the gates you can take to avoid the monkeys dont be put off. Some lunatics can't help themselves though.

By the way if your wondering how they do it i watched one unscrew an aerial on a golf then use this as a pry tool to lever everyones gutter trim and window rubbers out. They even have there own favorite brands of cars to f**k with. This is what happens when you put highly evolved primates in a small enclosure and then drive Nosey humans through it.

Sorry but hats off to the monkey's for finding a way to eleviate the bordem.

Oh I wasn't complaining - it's the wife's car (I certainly wouldn't have taken mine in there) and it was the wife who wanted to see the monkeys, she knew the risks and we came off much better than several other cars - the MPV in front completely lost both of its roof gutters and two window rubbers. :D

I'm just looking for a cheap way to get them working again.

How did the monkeys get behind the bumper and get the sensors out?

Have you looked on eBay for sensors or looked for cars being broken (eBay, here or scrappies)?

I'd guess they just pulled from outside and broke the clips - they're pretty strong.

The very reason I asked the original question was so I could find a car in a breaker's yard without having to track down an exact match for our car. I assume the mk5 Golf uses the same sensors, but what else?

I think my parents VW sharon has the same sensors will check. If it does then i guess you could use the Ford Galaxy and Seat version aswell.

Should be loads of these at the scrappers.

I bet they pushed them inside the bumper and are currently hanging by the wire on the inside

I'd also go for them having pushed the sensors into the bumper - could try shining a powerful torch into the holes to try and see.

You can access the inside of the bumper by removing the screws from the underside of the black lower bumper trim and wedging it down with a suitable sized off-cut of wood between the Black trim and the bodywork (to ensure minimal pressure on your arm) and then sliding your arm up into the void behind the bumper - sounds difficult but only takes 10 minutes and does not require jacking up - then feel around for the sensors. If there they should simply push back into the holes.

I really can't think how they could have hit the OUT as opposed to IN.

To take them OUT would need very small, sharp fingers (like monkeys have) and be able to pull on next to nothing (the sensor), disengage them from the bracket (the bracket won't go through the hole) and break the wires (not impossible to snap, but very hard).

Try working your hand up behind the bumper from under the car. Corners give you the most doace.

You might just find them and discover they just need glueing back.

Ah I didn't realise they would fit through the holes into the bumper cavity, I'll have a look next time I have a chance.

Cheers all.

My 3 year old pushed one of mine into the bumper when asking "whats this" . I managed to push it back in place lying on the floor without removing the bumper. They seemed to be held in with something like double sided sticky tape.

Well they've definitely gone - with a bit of poking around I can see the cables they should be on the end of, and the tooth marks when they've been chewed through. :D
