Sump guard

Featured Replies

it arrived with the parts delivery today so we will soon have a fitting guide and how much it cost if anyone is interested

I am interested ..... :)

me tooooooo

Same here - loads of loose junk on the road regularly in this area so protecting the sump sounds like an excellent idea.

How heavy is it, as it's yet more weight to the car :(

You won't fit it yourself (without a very special tool). If you have one, great, if not you need to know a man who does, which will probably be your dealer.

It comes with captive nuts and you need (technical term here ;) ) a sodding great rivet gun to compress them. Cheapest I could find was

Oh and your car will be slightly noisier as you lose some sound deadening by fitting it (not a lot but thought you should know). As for weight, it is not insubstantial :( But you can hit stuff with impunity :D

I gather rivets that size need a fairly big gun to do, and they ain't that common, hence the rather substantial price :D

what kind of captive nut any pics as there are many types

JBS got me a price on an OE one a few weeks ago and I was flabbergasted!

Over

Loads-of-cash though even that :(

What's the JBS thing look like, and how much would they charge to fit all-in (inc VAT too ;))

Very true Josh,

the skoda sumpguard is not very good i fitted it today in me lunch hour and firstly its only plastic and secondly half the bits on etka are not neeeded lets find somewhere to make us a decent metal one!!!!! like josh said

I scrape my undertray on a regular basis now, especially when I park on the pavement outside my house. A nice 1/2mph gentle rubbing.... :o:rofl:

Would like something chunky for sure, just in case.

hang on the proper one i was looking at was metal

I've been reading this with interest for a while now, as some of you may know I've been drawing up a sump guard for the Octy and will soon have a prototype to fit to my car and one other for a gineau pig to try out (possibly piv34uk ;) ).

I would happily look at designing a Fabia one although I would need a car to look at/measure in order to do so.

If someone can photograph the skoda plastic one I can certainally start off by getting some prices etc sorted.

Octavia and Fabia versions will be available in steel, aluminium and........ carbon fibre :D

mate if you need a car there is one here where ever u want it and i thought it was metal but it turned up and is plastic i know the octavia ones are metal as there is one sat in the workshop now

Plastic, Mmmmmm. Aftermarket product though and something tells me not exactly designed for a stage of the WRC! Nevertheless i would say that the profile would be made of ABS which is high impact plastic and pretty tough!

The Octy ones are metal and damned solid :D

Did you order the right part? (Sorry if that is a daft / offensive question)

Basically you'd want something that isn't too hard to fit - it's mainly to deflect junk from hitting the sump. In my case speedbumps aren't that big a deal, the Furby handles them pretty well as standard.

Some back roads here however have deep, deep tracks though which the car kinda straddles and then a sump guard would potentially save it's bacon (and mine ;))

im going to check today but i am very sure it is the right part it does seem alot hard than the undertray so not bad and for just shy of

Printed the part numbers from ETOS but there seems a hell of a lot of components which when priced up equal around

i will get the part numbers for you this afternoon sometime when i have chance and a new bit arrived for it today a funny shaped steel bar to add strength still think a custom one is going to be the best way to go

I was lying under my Octy last night , tape measure in hand ;)

If the official one is anything like mine will be, the funny shaped bar will give direct vertical support to the guard.

I have all the part numbers just need clarification on exactly which one is required plus bolts and cap nuts etc. These are all identifiable on ETOS but just a little vague in showing which one is for the VRS and what fastners to use. Cheers
