Clutch and flywheel

Featured Replies

Hey guys

Looks like I have the classic symptom of dual mass flywheel failure on my tdi. I am going to be phoning round for prices tomorrow but what's the most I should be laying out on a new clutch and flywheel fitted? Also what the sort of damage could I expect if I leave it grumbling too long. Its done 215000 mls so far and I was hoping to squeeze a few more out of it.

Thanks

Mines disintegrated and took the gearbox with it!

Ouch... Been searching a while on here, seems like some people have left their quite a while. I think I'll be getting it done sooner rather than later.

I left mine for about 15k, then one day booooom!! :o

It only been noticeable the last 1k but I do not think I'll wait too long....

How can you tell if its on the way out?

Rattling on startup and stop is usually a case of dmf failure, never seen one take gearbox with it but suppose it could happen

The car I pick up at the weekend (2004 ALH) has had a standard flywheel and clutch fitted

When mine was playing up at only 35K it was rattling and shaking the engine like mad and would seriously judder in 1st,2nd & reverse.

Replaced with a SMF and new clutch by Skoda under warranty. Great drive now and so quiet and smooth.

Valeo do a kit including SMF for around £315 excl fitment. Many on the MK2 section have had there's done with great results too with this kit. I would highly recommend one.

Good luck.

Bad week at work so no prices yet....my syptoms include bad rattle at start up which is a lot less if the clutch is pressed. And noise and vibration as the clutch is lifted.

Well for what's its worth I waited another 12k before getting new clutch and dual mass flywheel fitted. £800 all in including new drive shaft bearing (which has cured a faint grinding noise when corner it had for the last three years) and gearbox mount. It got pretty bad tbh but its like a new car and for some reason fuel ecomomy is up by around 7-8mpg now:)
