Octavia Vrs Modifications

Featured Replies

Hi all

Looking to get some good advice from all you experienced modification nuts out there.

I pick up my new car tomorrow and am already thinking about modifications, so now for the big questions.....???????

What would you look to improve first ?? eg remap for more power etc.

I have read the overview on the site and found it interesting but it does not give me a direction as to what changes i should do first!!

Everyone out there who has made changes to there cars must have thought I wish i had done this first etc

So please let me know your thoughts !

Also will these changes wreck my warranty etc ??

Yours Excited but also very Nervous

What he said! ;) Plus maybe look at some better tyres, depending on what it comes with :D

And yes, replacing any item with a non-Skoda item is likely to wreck your warranty, although they may make allowances, eg if you have a remap and something goes wrong not related to that they may fix it.........

Thanks for the excellent advice i'm like a sponge absorbing all this great info

Nope ;) but I'm making (probably an erroneous) assumption that you had lessons to pass your test and have done nothing further since then. If I'm wrong, please accept my apologies.

If I'm right, go get some training, you'll be surprised at the difference it can make

I went Power, brakes, suspension on my old one (I think - may have been P,S,B). Most people go for the power option first, although Jon's is the more forward-thinking approach.

Indeed it is Nick

If I have more power first, I'll arrive at corners quicker and will have to brake harder as I won't be able to go round them as quick.

If I have brakes first, I can brake later makingup some of the defecit in power, although I won't go round any quicker than standard

If I do the suspension I can carry more speed through the corners, meaning I don't need to brake as much and, again, I can make up some power defecit over a remapped one.

Always a tough choice on brakes or suspension first though. Personally I'd do brakes, it's a safety thing.

For example, look at my humble taxi. It can stay quite happily with much more powerful cars, purely because of the brakes and suspension.

As for the driver training / lessons - a well trained driver will always be quicker over any given piece of road than your "average" driver.

Hmmm, having only been a fare in the taxi on the track, I'd say on that occasion it was tyres, suspension and power that made the most impression. I don't remember the brakes being that much better than mine (subjectively) but I did notice you carrying more speed into the corners than me....

i did suspension first hate wollowy cars and high cars... then did mods like air filter exhaust and DV... then had it reampped... not even thought about brakes for the type of driver i am the standard ones are fine IMO...it all about what you really want from your car and how deep you pockets are.. i did the the above over a year... all be it around other projects like my ICE install

This is all good stuff and is really helpful to novices like my self

Much appreciated

Paul

personally if your going down the filter, exhaust and remap route wouldnt it be better to do the filter and exhaust first then remap after to save having the map tweaked to account for the extra's ?

think i'd do handling, brakes then power if i was you though.

saying that i only have a jabba induction kit and Bailey recirc to talk of, the power of the car is fine for me and the brakes are better than anything else i've had (including a big brake conversion on my old R19). i've never done a track day so i wouldnt know about the handling of the car in those circumstances, its fine for me on the road as is. (vRS by the way).

For my Octy I went:
